Great LCD!,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sharp LC-37D5U 37-Inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD TV (HD Tuner and Digital Cable Ready) (Electronics)
Recently purchased this Great Flat Panel LCD from Amazon.com. Besides the TV being awesome, the fact that Amazon did not ship to Hawaii was the only draw back. Maybe Hawaii is considered a territory to them and not a state? Go figure. Anyways, they still had a great price better than Circuit City, so I made the purchase and had it sent to my Mom in Florida and then she sent it to me. The TV has a great picture in High Def. I have cable service which isn't all digital as of yet, so the analog signals (Channels) are kind of blurry, but OK. The digital channels of which are few and the HD channnels are razer sharp. I did my homework before buying this set, and the Sharp Aquos series came out on top in my findings.

I bought this tv through amazon and One Call was the vendor. Great experience with the shipping. Well, now that I have the tv I can personally comment. I read the reviews over the past couple of months and overall this tv did not get high marks. I agree with some of the other reviewers that you need a good quality signal to make this tv perform. Is that a problem with the TV? I don't think so. I have digital cable and am getting HD cable next week. The picutre on any of the digital stations is excellent. Also, the picutre is quite good on analog stations that use good equipment on their end. This TV is so sharp, hehe, that it will exagerate a bad signal. Of course any dvd's are going to look great. I would recommend this or any of the Sharp LCDs to anyone who has digital cable or digital satellite. Even if you have no cable and just receive your signal over the air it's still great. The buit in HD and regular tuners will allow someone to really enjoy great tv because all the networks now broadcast a lot in HD. If you like the looks of this tv and want the best lcd panel out there then go for it. You won't be dissapointed. Like always, I don't think all the people that are satisfied with this product bother to write a review. That's why I did. I spent a lot of time looking on the net for info and found very few reviews. Hope this helps someone.

I purchased this unit from One Call. The service was fast and the package was in perfect shape. FedEx 3 day. The picture is great and the tv a snap to set up, but... The documentation is pointed to cable tv and the included TV Guide. Neither of which I have, or want. It would be impossible for a novice to set this unit up off cable without professional help. Sharp really dropped the ball there.

Think again,

Given that I had excellent experience with the smaller Sharp LCD's I thought that this larger model would perform as well, boy was I really, really wrong!
I connected up my satellite and cable connections and found that the only acceptable results came from the 8 HD channels on cable. This despite signal strength of 86 plus for all channels. Satellite reception is so bad, producing smeared resolutions on all channels, including HD, to the point that it is really not watchable. My 10 year old Pioneer plasma on the other hand still produces a razor sharp picture on all channels of satellite and average results from cable. The on screen TV Guide is a disaster, far too much useless information, very poor navigation, difficult if not impossible to customize and program. The Cable Card function is a great idea. Slightly larger than a regular credit card it simply slips into a slot but then the problems start as the instruction manual and on screen menu is unclear and differ on how to correctly program the analog and digital channels. If you are an average consumer with the expectation of getting an excellent, or at least above, performance from this expensive TV, and you have an average knowledge of setting up and programming an electronic device, my firm recommendation would be, think again.

Bad shipping agent. Ordered several items at the time this TV was purchased. This being the most expensive happened to be the only item that mysteriouly disappered. The TV was lost in transit for a week. When it was finally found the shipper -Eagle - told us that it would be delivered the very next day. After a another few days of listening - and waiting - to this story the shipper told us the TV was still on their dock. We refused delivery. We'll find it elsewhere. Good luck Amazon.
