Ordered this 4/6/14. Very nice picture, great up conversion & perfect size for the living room. Loved how nice youtube videos looked on it. First week of September 2014 this started shutting down & flashing the dreaded 2-5 code. I called tech support who told me to do a factory reset and it would either fix it or create a fatal flaw. You guessed it, they gave me the number of a local authorized repair shop. The tech came out & told me the 2-5 code meant cracked screen or shorted display. He was able to prove the display was shorted by disconnecting half of the matrix and power it up normally. He sent photos and established a case report with Sharp. Sharp said I would hear from a case manager in a day or two, that was Monday. Now on Friday I'm getting that sinking feeling as I stare at the gaping hole in the entertainment center & $100 cable bill I can't use.
I'll update when I get some resolution.
Update: 9/28/14
Called & talked with a case manager. He offered a refurbished unit. Someone else's lemon has to be better than mine. They said 7-10 days after one becomes available. So I'm on a waiting list... and another sick day home waiting on a delivery guy.
Update: 10/10/14
Called again & asked what other options I have to resolve this. I was told there may be nothing else that can be done except wait for a refurbished unit. I will hear from some manager in two business days if other options are available.
Update: 10/20/14
You guessed it, never heard from Sharp so called again, still on a waiting list, no end in sight. Two weeks ago I had contacted Amazon about this situation. I e-mailed again this morning, by noon they called and generously offered to refund or replace this unit. That's way above & beyond their one month replacement guarantee. Five stars for you, Amazon, you guys rock!!! And shame on Sharp for their indifference and making others clean up the mess they make.

Couple of things to consider before you buy. I will list them as Pros and Cons.

Pros:

1. Great picture quality. 4K is 4K if you can find content. There are a few 4K streams on youtube that you can search for but it is compressed. However the PQ looks great.
2. Sound is much much better than most of the other sets.
3. Web browser is a big plus. Works with almost any site that I use. No silverlight support though. Bluetooth keyboard support makes it easier to type.
4. Up conversion from 720-1080P to 4K is great. One of the best I have seen on similar TV sets.
5. 2D to 3D conversion strangely works but Active shutter glasses give me a headache. Do not think I will ever use them
6. The TV looks great mounted on the wall. The bezel is thin and CEO of the house approves it.
7. Netflix, Youtube and other apps work fine

Cons:

1. This set is heavy. Forget hauling it on your own or mounting on the wall. You need help.
2. The subwoofer "bulge" in the back make it impossible to have a flush/slim mount. I had to use two spacers each to mount. Expect at least 2.5-3" clearance between the set and the wall.
3. There used to be a Skype App on the 2013 sets. This application is no loner available on the 2014 Sharp sets. I did not know that as Skype support is mentioned in the user manual. This is a bummer.
4. There is no AMAZON app and they have no plans of introducing an amazon app either. Do not know if that was the case for the sets manufactured in 2013
5. The set does not currently play 4K Netflix streams. That may change later.
6. Consumes around 250-300 watts when switched on, 80 watts or so when in wallpaper mode.

Have had the TV for a week now. I have viewed satellite HD feed, . Blu-ray 1020p discs ,and youtube 4k video clips. The built-in line-doubler works amazingly well, visibly better that the 4K doubler that my home theater system provides ( anthem mrx710) Color depth and saturation is amazing as well. My only nit-pick is that I would have liked local full-array dimming as compared to the edge lit system. This TV comes with a matte screen, which I prefer, since most of the time I view in a lighted room and am not bothered by reflections. At $5000 the set was well priced

Purchased this set on 12/3/13. Started failing on 12/5/14. Called customer service and they had me do a reset which worked for about2 days and then the same thing happened. S\hut down with a 2/5 light code.Customer service had me contact a local repair facility who was unable to get information about this code from Sharp's own engineers so they had to end up trying a few things. It ended up being a defect in the panel itself due to the power supply. Sharp finally closed the case end of January with an offer to send a refurbished model when one comes in but they have no timeline on when this will get replaced. So far it's been a month and a couple phone calls later and the line is "When we get one in we will ship it right out to you. We get shipments every day but since we don't get shipping manifests we cannot be sure when we will get one in" They have no other info for you, So based on my dealings with "Customer Service" I would not recommend this or any Sharp product.
