I was looking on the unternet at 22" Flat Screen TV's to replace my old tube TV in the kitchen. When I came upon the Sharp LC-22DV27UT TV/DVD combo, its capabilites caught my eye. I was looking for a replacement tv/dvd combo for our small travel trailer, and being historically a Toshiba TV fan, initially purchased a Toshiba 19LV61k, the latest model in basically the same such combo Toshiba has been producing for a number of years. I took it back immediately - great picture, but tiny speakers with volume so low that you could not hear what people were saying on screen from 3 feet away, even when you had it cranked to the max. Moreover, Toshiba provided no output for an auxiliary speaker system (other than a headphone outlet). After a lot of research, I purchased this Sharp. Unfortunately for me, Amazon did not have it at the time. The current Amazon price of $349.99 with free shipping beats what I paid ABC Warehouse by about twenty bucks (ABC is a great alternative retailer though). In any event, this combo is light as a feather, has a great picture, and ample volume. The model was introduced in January, 2009, and has all the current bells and whistles, including the option of surround sound (toggle it from the audio sub-menu; you will like it) and a coaxial audio output. So far (one month from purchase), we like the combo immensely, and would recommend it. From my research on line and examining different sets at Best Buy and other retail stores, I did not find a better alternative to this tv/dvdcombo in its size range, regardless of cost.

As of April 8, 2010, still going strong and giving good service

5.0 out of 5 stars The better choice, September 8, 2009
This review is from: Sharp LC22DV27UT 22-Inch LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player, Black (Electronics)
Basically, if you want a small LCD TV w/DVD built-in, you can choose from Sharp, Toshiba, LG, and some lesser names and chineese brands. Since I've had good luck with Sharp and bad luck with Toshiba in the past, I waited for this model to become available (all summer). So far I am not dissappointed.

Pros: great picture, you can adjust the brightness, backlight, etc to tweak it to your delight. I like the factory settings so far. - Sound is more than adequate for this size TV - Tuner picked up every available signal with a basic, attic-mounted antennae - DVD player works very nicely - viewing angles better than I expected.

Cons: Non-adjustable base ( I don't care because I have it wall-mounted in a bedroom with a nice tiltable mount) - Remote layout ( It's probably not that bad. I'm just used to Samsung's layout and I guess i'd just have to get used to this one). The actual screen size is less than 22 inches. This TV (HxW) is smaller than my 22" Samsung (kitchen - no DVD) because the bezel is thinner and screen is about 21.5" diagonally. So if you have a tight space, that could be a good thing.

Really, I'm thinking this is the best 22" LCD w/DVD out there. The price is not bad and the picture/sound is as good as it gets in this class TV. A decent, swivel-arm, tiltable, wall-mount can be had for 30 bucks. Bought TV thru Video Audio Center without a hitch.

Originally purchased for my 5th wheel camper, but I don't think it's going to make it out of my bedroom.I set it up just to check it out,and really can't say enough about it.Beautiful picture, sharp, great colors on factory setting. My biggest worry was the sound as flat panels tend to have low volume. Not this one, just fine for my applications i.e. bedroom and camper.sooo... glad I read the reviews between this one and the Toshiba I was going to get. This TV is absolutely awesome!!!

I was looking on the unternet at 22" Flat Screen TV's to replace my old tube TV in the kitchen. When I came upon the Sharp LC-22DV27UT TV/DVD combo, its capabilites caught my eye. I decided to go to a Electronics store to check it out. The TV looked great, the picture was better than most of the other 22" models and the sound , although weak, was loud enough to hear it sitting ten feet away. When I asked the clerk to stick a DVD in there was a problem. The DVD went in okay, and the screen said it was reading, but then the screen went black and stayed black. The clerk ejected and re-inserted the disk a couple times with the same results. I asked did he have another TV in stock and he said yes. So I bought it, took it home and got it all set up in the kitchen. The picture color needed a little adjustment, but otherwise it was great, until I tried to use the DVD. Upon inserting the DVD in the slot it would immediately eject. I tried putting the disk in frontwards and backwards with the same results. I figured maybe somethings wrong with the Disk. So I got another DVD, inserted it and it stayed. However the player never turned on and the DVD would not eject. After repeated attempts to recover my wife's favorite DVD I repacked the TV w/DVD and took it back to the store. Its obvious to me that the DVD player installed in this model by Sharp is either a low end piece of junk or Sharp hasn't learned the importance of Quality Assurance in their manufacturing facility. I'm still searching for a "Good 22" TV/DVD combo!

I received my new t.v. delivered at my doorstep, which was convienient since 2 years ago my 19 inch Toshiba delivery required i drive to FedEx to pick it up. I assembled it and set it up in about 10 minutes, and i am pretty clueless about things electronic. I had to buy this new t.v. because i had a Toshiba 19 inch lcdhdtv with built in dvd player that was only 2 years old and it blew up, so i had no confidence in their product and selected a Sharp. I have a Sharp 32 inch lcdhdtv which i bought in 2004 when they cost thousands of dollars and it still works great. The 23 inch Sharp I just bought is great but the sound could be a little richer and there is a tendency for a lot of darkness on the screen, making things hard to see a bit too often. Also, the picture is a little hard to see when it's much above eye level, which is hard when i use it for exercise dvds. Since the 23 inch is so nice and light and thin I wish I had bought the 26 inch. All in all. I think it's the best I could have found for a bedroom t.v. with built in dvd player and recommrnd it above a Toshiba.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for your money., December 5, 2009

I have been without a working television for the last 3 years. When I broke down and decided to buy another set, I took my time and went to all my local outlets - WalMart, Best Buy and Staples and priced sets and learned about key features.

I chose this set for the following: great clear picture quality - at least to my eyes, even more important to me - the audio is surprisingly good - it is loud enough and there are enough choices on your audio menu that you can tailor the sound - I would recommend that you use the surround sound feature, the remote control is adequate and there are outputs for computer and catv built in and it is digital ready.

In addition, this unit came with a DVD player, and the quality of the player is excellent. Overall the LC-22DV27UT is worth the money being charged. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Are there things I wish it had...yep - 1080 dp. But I am unwilling to pay a considerable amount more for that feature. I also would have preferred a full service espresso bar with a beautiful barista to watch movies with but evidently Sharp has not developed that level of technology or at the very least it is not available to those of us who are not interested in purchasing high dollar home entertainment systems.

There's always hope for the future.

We purchased this Sharp TV with a built in DVD player for its DVD abilities. Once it is up and running, we have been totally pleased with the picture quality and sound. Getting there, however, is sometimes a chore. The remote that accompanied the product is not the one described in the materials, and so it took -- indeed is still taking -- some experimentation to figure what does what and how to accomplish even something as basic as pausing the DVD. Equally so, getting started on a DVD with more than one selection is still non-trivial to us. I am sure all this will change shortly once we get accustomed to it and then we will be totally enamored. For the moment, I would welcome a greater ease of use of the DVD. I cannot speak to any other feature.

Selected this mainly because of the built in DVD player. Wall mounted it so it was easier with a built in player. Picture is pretty good , set-up very simple and the DVD player put out a nice pic. After playing 2 DVDs it quit working the DVD that is. Thanks to Amazon's great custumer service it was replaced with no hassle. So far the 2nd one is working just fine. Satisfied with the TV and very pleased with Amazon's commitmint to customer service. Great job !!

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable choice for the price - but not perfect, March 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sharp LC22DV27UT 22-Inch LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player, Black (Electronics)
My selection criteria were 22inch screen, built-in DVD player and brand name product. After reading reviews among the only two current choices I could find - this model and a Toshiba offering, I chose the Sharp.

My reactions are as follows:

* The TV works fine. Worked out of the box with no problems.

* The picture quality is not stunning. It tends to be over-saturated and no amount of twiddling with the various settings can get it just the way I would expect it to be.

* Viewing angle may be an issue depending on use. The horizontal viewing angle is fine. The vertical viewing angle is limited. So as there is no tilt adjustment on the stand supplied, you need to make the sure the TV can be installed for direct viewing, or use a flexible wall mount. This could be a problem in a bedroom setting for example.

* The remote control design (the IR commands, not the physical unit) is not great. There is no direct Input selection and no direct Aspect selection. Each are a scroll through. So for example there is no easy way to use one button switching to zoom a program - you have to scroll through the less than useful non-proportional aspect ratios to get there. (We use Harmony Remotes for all our TVs as we need to control an external cable box as well, and having direct feature access makes the programming and use so much easier. Many manufacturers just do not think this aspect through properly.)

Bottom line. I bought this TV as a test to see if it could be a good choice to equip several of the guest rooms at our B&B. The decision is that it is ok to keep for one room, but we will look for other options before deciding on a quantity purchase - this one is not the answer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow to change channels, March 4, 2010

This review is from: Sharp LC22DV27UT 22-Inch LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player, Black (Electronics)
First, kudoes to Amazon. I ordered this on Wednesday morning, choose supersaver free shipping, and it arrived before noon on Thursday (I live in Dallas/Fort Worth). Set-up and programming took 15 minutes (okay, I am a rocket scientist) and the DVD player works. The remote is intuitive for someone experienced with using remote conrols. The picture is 1366 x 768 (about 720), so you will not see the refinement of 1080 HD pictures, but I am not sure higher resolution is available on small sets like this. The contrast is good. My only complaint so far is the time to start up and change channels. The Sharp 22DV27UT takes about 2-1/2 seconds to change channels, which is unacceptable for channel surfing. In comparision, the Viewsonic N2201w takes less than one second and my cable box takes about 1/2 second. Start up of the Sharp is also twice as long as the Viewsonic. The picture of the new Sharp is slightly better than the 1-1/2 year old Viewsonic. I selected the Sharp because of better reviews of sound loudness as we be using it in large kitchen/dinette area. The Viewsonic's sound starts to distort at 50% volume level. The Sharp is clear and crisp up to full volume. I don't know which is louder, but the Sharp is goes louder with quality.
