It combines the convenience of an all-in-one home theater solution with Sharp's new Superlucent Advanced Super View (ASV) panel for a dramatically bright and crisp picture. Full HD 1080p resolution produces a crisp picture, and Sharp's Spectral Contrast Engine XD (Extreme Dark) provides a high dynamic contrast ratio, enabling deep blacks and vibrant colors, and a special dejudder feature results in the smooth reproduction of film content. The Blu-ray Disc format has full 1080P resolution capability, and it enables you to take advantage of the latest surround sound formats such as Dolby TrueHD. By dividing each pixel into two sections and developing an advanced driving system, Sharp’s new Multi-Pixel Technology delivers more natural and accurate color reproduction when viewing the screen from virtually any angle. Superlucent Advanced Super View (ASV) LCD 10-Bit Panel

By changing the layout of circuits inside the LCD panel and by reducing the number of parts, Sharp engineers developed the slim-line design which reduces depth by 25 percent, allowing placement of the BD80-series televisions in virtually any setting. Sharp’s innovative LCD panel technology, Advanced Super View panels provide pure whites, deep blacks and a vivid range of color. The panel provides a dynamic contrast ratio up to 27,000:1 and LCD TV industry leading 4ms response time for true film-like smoothness. A 10-bit panel increases the color capability from more than 16 million colors to more than one billion colors. Manufacturing

Opened in 2006, the Sharp LCD television plant in Kameyama, Japan, includes one of the world's largest roof-mounted solar electricity installations. All Sharp factories achieved green status according to international recommendations that combine economic efficiency, social-mindedness and environmental conservation. At the factories, cogeneration and photovoltaic power generation systems supply approximately one-third of the total energy used. Combined with an on-site fuel cell system that converts energy without combustion, Sharp has reduced CO2 emissions by 40 percent per year. Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. We have had this TV for 3 months now and are very satisfied with it. We aren't high demand users and really everything about it has been fine for us. I mostly watch sports and the picture is great for basketball and baseball. Football season is just starting so I'm looking forward watching that on this TV. My only complaint (and the reason for 4 stars and not 5) is that the DVD player doesn't seem to play very many types of files/disks, even with updated firmware. It doesn't show things like jpg files or video files from my camera that play on other stand alone DVD players (non Blu-ray). Maybe all Blu-ray players are limited like that, I don't know. We get around it by hooking up a portable DVD player to the side AV jacks and watching them that way but it would be easier to just be able to pop the disks into the built in drive. Overall I think this is a great TV and I would recommend it.

The unit is excellent. We were, however, surprised that some updates had to be downloaded onto the set to get it to play some of the blu-ray movies that would NOT play. (i.e. Taken, Australia) The tech department was very helpful in guiding us through the process.

Sharp LC46BDOU --everything very good EXCEPT sound system. sound control is not graduated evenly and highest position not loud enough.
