3.0 out of 5 stars Had to return first unit to Sharp
The problem with the unit was horizontal lines accross the screen regardless of whether watching TV or playing a Blue Ray disc. I'll attach a picture.

The Sharp service was excellent though. I sent the a photo of the problem via e-mail and they delivered a replacement within a week.

The new one works perfectly. The Blue Ray is slow to load but...

This review is from: Sharp AQUOS LC52BD80U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Built-In Blu-ray Player (Electronics)
This is our first LCD HDTV to replace our Sony rear-projection HDTV. We have it now for a month, and we are very happy with it.

Prior to placing the order, I visited a local electronic store comparing Sharp TV with other name brands. This particular model was not available in the showroom at the time. At the first, I was not totally impressed with Sharp's HDTV because it did not have as good black level and contrast comparing to Sony XBR series. After researching on the internet, I learned that this model has many of same features and use the same technologies employed by Sharp last year's Special Edition HDTV that costed around $5K range. I went ahead and placed the order.

The new monitor arrived in good condition. The initial setup was quick and easy, simply follwing its wizard. The setup procedure picked up many analog and clear QAM channels off the cable. I particularly like its feature that allows me to surf both analog and digital channels without switching between the modes like other DVR machine does. I could also individually define which channel to skip. Its remote allows me to program my favorite channels as "quick keys". Very nice feature.

Out of box color is vivid and vibrant, and the black level is deep just like other more expensive Sony XBRs. This TV comes with advanced video tuning capabilities. Besides the typical backlighting, contrast, brightness, sharpness and tint, I could fine-tune white balance, individual color channels. I found this TV only requires minor brightness adjustment to suit my viewing preferences. This TV "shines" when playing back Blu-Ray material such as Pirate of Caribbean with its built-in player.

This TV has plenty of input/output connectors. Specifically, I like the fact it has an optical audio output to my home theater system. BTW, that is a must because the built-in speakers is very wimpy.

For anyone who is thinking about buying a LCD HDTV, you will not regret with this one.

Very happy with recent purchase of the Sharp Aquos 52 inch HDTV. The quality of the picture is excellent. The biggest problem was getting the satellite hook up for HD, after that hurdle, it has really been enjoyable watching TV. Haven't tried the blu-ray player yet, but the satellite installer was impressed with it. This is our first HDTV so we are still exploring all the features. The shipping from Amazon was very quick. We were a bit nervous ordering the TV online without actually seeing it, but the delivery went well and we are happy with our new TV. We had been looking for almost a year before we made the purchase and we believe we made the right choice.

After 3 months, we are still wowed. This is my 3rd Sharp TV. The best of any flat-screen I've purchased. Superb picture. Unlike other reviews here, it keeps up with any sport. No problems processing fast images, baseball, football, tennis, motor sports, whatever. DVD and Blu-Ray is awesome. Up convert for DVD works well on this as well. Definitely better than standard DVD quality. It appears almost as good as full HD. Was worried disc player would not allow me to hang it on a wall mount. No problem. Plenty of clearance with this layout. All around phenomenal at a good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome TV, May 28, 2009
This review is from: Sharp AQUOS LC52BD80U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Built-In Blu-ray Player (Electronics)
I have this model since a month and have found it exceptionally good. The colors are vivid and black is close to perfect. The built-in Blu-Ray player is a boon. Saves space and perfect when it is hung on a wall.
The TV can be swung left or right on the stand. That is neat. With Aquos brand, you can buy with confidence. After all, Sharp is a pioneer in LCD technology.
The only problem i think is that when you insert the Blu Ray disk, it takes quite some time to read it and start the movie.

Unfortuntaley the first one that showed up had lines running through the screen horizontally. I got a little bit of the run around with amazon regarding replacing it. They made me call Sharp and try to troubleshoot it ect. Afterward I had to place an order for a new TV and have it delivered and the old one picked up. They credited my initial purchase. Besides that I have a TV now that is awesome. The picture is incredible and the blue ray player is great as well. Great value just a bit of headache getting one that did not work initially. I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Good and the Bad, September 26, 2009

This review is from: Sharp AQUOS LC52BD80U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Built-In Blu-ray Player (Electronics)
First the delivery and help was great. The picture is very clear (120Hz helps). The only problem I have with this unit is the FIRMWARE for the Blu-Ray is not up to date. This can be fixed by downloading the latest from Sharp. Problem is you either must have or must purchase a Flash/Thumb drive without any programs. If you purchase a new one check it out and delete any preloaded ones. Once the new firmware is loaded ALL of your Blu-Rays with work. I would suggest a person who is not used to PCs and downloads have a friend do it. If you call Sharp support they will tell you exactly what you need to do. Print the instructions from the site and you should have not problems. Remember if any other programs are on the drive it will not work in the Blu-Ray player. Now back to the TV itself. Love the power saving features. The on screen data is great. You know if the programs is 1080I, 720P, 480P, 480I. If you read the booklet you will find this unit has so many features to make it a unit which should last a long time and be useful for a long time. Remember one thing, if you want a TV you can tilt, it is not recommended and the Blu-Ray might not work. One last thing, no separate unit messing up the wall mounted unit looks.

I love the size and the look of the picture when viewing HD channels. The shipment was on time with no problems and the delivery carrier took the product out the box assisted with hooking up the cable and plugging the TV up to ensure it was working properly. He even set up the TV for cable and the viewing options. The one thing I didn't expect is the slow response when switching from cable input to DVD. There's also a short delay when changing channels. I assumed that since this is an HDTV then it's like a computer with lots of drive and memory space so it moves faster but no there is a couple of seconds delay, approx. 3-5 seconds but over all I love the TV and would recommended to anyone as a great purchase like I said excellent picture.

The new one works perfectly. The Blue Ray is slow to load but I think that is true of Blue Ray in general. Picture is fine. Sound is as good as any large HDTV, but I will be adding a Morantz sound bar.

Amazon's courier service delivery and set up is excellent, efficient, and on time.
