Great MD Recorder,

I really liked the manual recording levels unlike some models that has the automatic rec levels. The only downside to this unit, it does not have a mic input, but all is not lost. I was able to buy a a great microphone from www.soundprofessionals.com that has microphones just for line-in and it worked perfectly.

Saving vinyl with this tiny box,
By Rich "rapsf" (San Francisco, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sharp MD-MT180 Mini-Disc Recorder/Player (Electronics)
We purchased the MT180 to record our collection of approx. 300 vinyl L.P. records. We chose it because of the MDLP function, which allows 360 minutes of recording to a 74 minute minidisc using a lot of compression in the ATRAC format. Using the setting for sound activated recording ("line synch" on the tiny screen's display), we record l.p.s at our leisure; the recorder pauses itself until we turn the record over. Sound quality at the LP4 setting is clear enough; audiophiles could use the LP2 setting and still compress to 160 minutes per minidisc. The discs are cheap, and using LP4 we put about 6 vinyl long play records on each disc. Disc and track labelling can be done using the tiny buttons. We were surprized at the extremely small size of this unit, which could get lost in a shirt pocket. We use the line out terminals on our stereo system to record l.p.s. CDs can be recorded from an optional digital optical connection, or with an analog line, to the MT180's miniplug input. We would gladly buy a second unit, finding it much more cost effective than an MP3 player with its limited memory.
