4.0 out of 5 stars It's a Sharp Looking Microwave
We had the lower model of R-1520 and we really liked it. Because of an accident we had to replace it (I didn't do it. I wasn't even home). We have a certain look in our kitchen and we like a microwave that has the control panel hidden. (Most controls look cheap and flimsy.) Although this model is not the highest rated out there it still does everything we need it to do...

We had the lower model of R-1520 and we really liked it. Because of an accident we had to replace it (I didn't do it. I wasn't even home). We have a certain look in our kitchen and we like a microwave that has the control panel hidden. (Most controls look cheap and flimsy.) Although this model is not the highest rated out there it still does everything we need it to do. All I can see that it's missing is a center rack so you can place two items inside at once. I installed it by myself and found the instructions to be easy to understand and the installation simple. It is a bit heavy so you may need some help lifting it. My doctor says I should regain full use of my legs when my back is out of traction. (Just kidding.) If you are looking for a good-looking, well built, easy to operate, nice featured, easy to install microwave I say this is a good choice.

The Sharp "smart Carousel" design uses rotating magnetrons below the surface of the cooking chamber instead of rotating the food on a carousel. The rotating mechanism under the cooking chamber malfunctioned. As a result arcing occurred between the parts causing a fire and smoke. The unit was turned off in time to avoid a fire spreading to the surrounding cabinets. If no one had been present in the kitchen at the time a serious fire could have occurred.

The defect was bad enough. I consider myself lucky the damage was only to the microwave. Dealing with Sharp customer service was even worse. It has taken over two months to resolve this problem. Sharp offered me a replacement but couldn't get a new unit in white. We suggested paying the difference for an upgrade. We paid the difference for the upgrade...the sharp couldn't find it in white...even though I was able to locate a unit in white in about 5 minutes online. After giving up on a replacement and requesting a refund they "generously" offered me $183 for a product I paid $262. A product that endangered my home and family and had left me without a microwave for two months.

I've enjoyed Sharp products in the past but after this incident I can not recommend doing business with them under any circumstances.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Control, March 26, 2009

First Sharp R-1520LK cooked ok but fan wouldn't run therefore was a fire hazzard. Sent back to Amazon. Can't believe Amazon didn't double box as all the foam packing was all busted. Manufactured in 2009.
Second Sharp R-1520LK wouldn't cook in High mode. Everything came out luke warm at best. Popcorn only popped 40% of the corn. Fan did work on this one. This microwave was purchased locally.

If I can get my money back I'm going to get a GE from Home Depot. Otherwise I'm stuck with a repaired Sharp. The word "Lemon" keeps coming up. Manufactured in 2008.

This is a very stylish microwave. The buttons are on the inside panel and while I didn't think I would initially like this, it works great. Keeps all the fingerprints inside the microwave, so your microwave always looks clean. Also has a sensor to reheat food that works well.

Definately pleased with this good looking microwave oven, easy to operate, sensor choices a really helpful way to cook,2 way light switch for dimming after leaving the kitchen. Wattage is great. Has really added a nice look to the kitchen, most of all it was the best buy of all I looked at on line for the money & Amazon offering free shipping made it even more attractive. Have had a few Sharp products that outdid others and would not hesitate to buy these products again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Sharp R1520LK, September 10, 2007

This microwave oven fits perfectly and had a very nice stablization system to secure it to the wall. The dials are inside the door which makes for a nice display. It is quiet when running and has a nice black face which goes with our kitchen. The price was good and it has many features on it which come in handly. Great purchase.
