4.0 out of 5 stars Sharp Carousel Microwave
This is a remodel of a proven favorite. It's easy to understand and use, with predictable results. The new packaging is very modern and clean.

My only disappointment is the LCD display. It has a very highly-directional viewing angle, focusing down to facilitate use by shorter people. If standing near the display, I must stoop to read it. Otherwise, this item...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sharp finally sent a new one, January 5, 2011

I purchased this microwave/convection oven less than two years ago for my family's use. This consists of two people who work full time & the appliance was mainly used to do some baking and heat food, on occasion. A month ago the button broke. Sharp has no buttons in the United States to repair this appliance. The Sharp people in customer service never took notes so every time I called to try to find a new parts business, it was like the first time. Don't buy this appliance. It is cheaply made and Sharp has not maintained carrying an inexpensive part. It comes up as obsolete in the 12 parts places I have called. So, for almost $600 we have a two year old appliance but for a button, could work.

9/08/2011 - A customer service person at Sharp finally did the right thing. They said that it was odd that no one offered me a new oven and that I didn't have a record or complaint # for all the phone calls. They sent me a new oven for a small fraction of the original price, and free shipping to send the defective one back. I am hopeful that this oven, dated manufactured in 2010 rather than the original one of 2008, will work well for many years. It was just, all along, a matter of finding the right person at the Sharp Corporation to take care of this problem. So, if you have any problems, KEEP CALLING. It worked for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good price for a microhood/convection oven combo, February 17, 2009

This was such a good price for this particular item. I've compared the price online, and Amazon sold for by far the lowest price. Not to mention that there was no tax and no shipping fee.

The reason with 4 stars and not 5 is that power of this microwave is not that high. I had one from Panasonic with 1200 watt, and that was very nice until blew up after 7 years of hard work. I wanted a high power one, but they were too expensive.

The convection oven part is O.K. I've tested with some toffee cookies. Ones from my range/oven came out more moist inside and crisp outside. The convection oven dried the cookies, and they came out a bit too hard. Since I had only one oven before I bought this product, it is nice to have the second oven for the holiday seasons.

My old microwave was on the counter, and now I have so much more counter space. That's the part I love most of all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great convection microwave!, November 10, 2008

This is an excellent convection microwave combo. Perfect for use instead of a conventional oven for a small family or for those times that a second oven is needed & as a microwave, too. The installation instructions were almost nonexistent but once installed it's been great! So many features, such as Sensor Heating & Sensor Cooking in the microwave mode. The convection oven has both preprogrammed times & temps with "compu" settings or you can enter your own. I would definitely recommend this oven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Fit, August 31, 2008
This review is from: Sharp R-1880LS Over The Range Microwave Convection Oven (Kitchen)
We bought this microwave/convection oven for use in our motor home. It fit perfectly in the opening which was a plus. And, it works perfectly which we found out on our last camping venture. I would recommend the R-188OLS for any over the range usage.

3.0 out of 5 stars Oven great, Amazon shipping, no so much, April 28, 2009

Amazon had the best price for this oven and it sure is nice. It says it is 850 Watts but it seems to cook better than other ovens I have had over 1000 watts. It is sleek, quiet and good looking. Installation was easy. I was able to retrofit it to the old unit by another manufacturer. Having the convection oven is a nice convenience although I rarely use it, opting for the microwave.
The unit I received was obviously a return unit that had been opened. There was a good dent in the bottom where it had been dropped and the paint was chipped. But it was such a pain to repack and reship such a large unit and the dent was on the bottom, I decided to try it out first. The oven was not damaged internally apparently. I also purchased the extended warranty and figure they can come out an fix it if it does not work. I have written Amazon asking that they just provide the metal panel that was dented for replacement, but have heard nothing so far. If the packing and shipping issue had not been there, I would have given the oven itself 5 stars.

I purchased this microwave as a replacement for my previous Sharp microwave. I had the previous one for about 10 years. It finally died. I felt the first one worked so well, that I would get a new Sharp to replace it. It turned out that the new oven was an exact replacement for my old oven. I was able to use the existing mounting plate in the back, as well as the holes lining up perfectly to bolt down from the top. It went so well, the new one was in, in less then 2 hours.

Some of the changes to the new microwave, seem to be an improvement on the old one. The touch panel is designed better, as well as the door. The door in my old microwave was developing cracks. I felt that it must be a pretty good design, being that it virtually had not changed that much in 10 years. The changes that were made, seem to be for the better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great when it worked!, December 19, 2009

I purchased this oven about 17 months ago. It lived up to all of the hype and worked great. Last week it just went dead. I tried to get some help through Amazon and the supplier. Nobody responded. I paid for an online evaluation and was told it was probably the fuse or fuses. The only trouble is you have to remove it from its location above the stove to get at the fuses. I figure that will cost me 150.00 to have it taken down and put back up if I can find the fuses, which I asked the supplier to advise me on, still no reply.Service is everthing and there is none through amazon at least for this product

5.0 out of 5 stars a great deal, June 24, 2009
This review is from: Sharp R-1880LS Over The Range Microwave Convection Oven (Kitchen)
much less expensive than other name brands that do exactly the same functions. We've had this for a few months, has worked like a champ, and I still haven't used it to it's full potential. The oven is a bit small, but since we seldom use it for baking, that's not a problem for us. The sensor defrost function is awesome, defrosts food very evenly

Knave had this for about a year and like it so far. We have not experimented too much with the convection - just a few things that we would not have been upset about if it did not come out perfectly. It looks great and bakes thin crust pizzas perfectly!
