4.0 out of 5 stars Great VCR at an Excellent price!
I've had this vcr now for almost a month and I couldn't be more pleased. It absolutely exceeded all of my expectations. Makes absolutely no discernable noises while operating (even on FFW/RW the mechanisms are very smooth and quiet). The picture quality is excellent, and set-up was a breeze. For the money, you can't beat this vcr!

5.0 out of 5 stars A nifty value, May 29, 2001
This review is from: Sharp VC-H820U 4-Head Hi Fi VCR (Electronics)
This VCR is a 4-head with a comfortable remote and Hi-Fi stereo. At this pricepoint, it is a GREAT value for anyone who wants a good VCR, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money (heck, who DOES want to spend a lot?) =). If you're looking around at VCR's this is a nifty little VCR for the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, Quiet, Efficient Machine, August 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sharp VC-H820U 4-Head Hi Fi VCR (Electronics)
My quest was simple. I needed a VCR to tape a couple of shows, and watch movies not out on DVD. It had to be QUIET, include index search, and offer clear picture and sound.... This Sharp fit the bill perfectly! Recording shows is so easy, the lack of VCR Plus is not missed. The picture is very clear, even in EP mode. Other reviewers claim NO discernable sound, which I didn't find to be true. But it is certainly one of the most quiet VCRs I've dealt with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bang for the buck, September 25, 2001

This review is from: Sharp VC-H820U 4-Head Hi Fi VCR (Electronics)
I decided to try this vcr based on the reviews I read on ... I ordered four of them to expand my duplicating operation. I have had them for about (2) weeks now and have recorded several times in both SP and EP mode. I found that recording in EP and playing back in EP on the same machine results in a VERY clear picture. Playing an EP recording in other vcrs (even different brands and models) resulted in a picture every bit as good as EP mode on my .... I mention that only to make the point that you can record in EP and expect it to play fine on other vcrs.

Also, I have found that if you are recording and you PAUSE (Not Stop) and then pick up recording a few minutes later, it has immediate response and you get a clean cut. But if you Stop and Start recording, you should expect a few seconds of tape roll forward and a second or two delay. If there is existing video information you are recording over, I have found I don't get a glitch. This was a pleasant surprise considering it does not have a flying erase head. However, because of the roll and delay, it is basically impossible to do a frame accurate insert edit. But we shouldn't expect that for the price of this unit. So, in my opinion, it is a very good performer for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Max features for the money, September 22, 2001
This review is from: Sharp VC-H820U 4-Head Hi Fi VCR (Electronics)
This VCR has front and back cable connectors, easy set up, GREAT Sharp Customer Service if you're like me and have difficulty with set up, is very light weight, plays slow motion, on screen display, tamper proof feature,skip-search, replay and you can eject a tape from the remote. Unit will occasionally reset tape if you don't eject it, to remind you. It's a bit noisy when it does this, but otherwise is quiet during play. It will also allow you to dub tapes from a camcorder or another VCR.Note to webtv users: You have to hit "Input" after set up to see your Webtv.Downside is remote will only work with Sharp TV and clock is not on the unit itself (on screen only) But, for all the features in this unit found in higher price VCRs, it's definitely worth the money if you're looking for an economy VCR with some extras.

1.0 out of 5 stars Jcontardo, October 9, 2001
This review is from: Sharp VC-H820U 4-Head Hi Fi VCR (Electronics)
This unit failed 2 months after purchase... We've had this for 70 days and it's going into the barrel today. Unit records but is not viewable. When tape recorded from this unit is played on this and other VCRs, it appears to be in fast forward.
We fell victim to the price. Never again. I'm back to my 7 year old NEC unit which still runs like a champ.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR HDTV's, September 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sharp VC-H820U 4-Head Hi Fi VCR (Electronics)
If you have a high definition-big screen TV like I do, or used to crystal-clear pictures from digital cable or satellite, this is NOT the VCR for you. It is not powerful enough to record anywhere near the clarity you're used to seeing. I strongly recommend you cough up a few extra dollars and get a better VCR!
