We had a Sharp Microwave Carousel II but after 25 years it gave up the ghost. This is our replacement, same size but more wattage 1200 vs. 700. The buttons are easy to use and, contrary to another review, the door opens easily. There are several new features that we are anxious to try but even without them we are well pleased with both the workmanship, cost and seller.

I purchased this a week ago to replace 19 yr old Sharp which I had wall mounted with the Sharp custome trim kit. I have also purchased the RK-51 trim kit which you can get to go with this unit so I would have a finished wall install like my older unit. I did not purchase the microwave through Amazon, but I did purchase the trim kit through Amazon. One of my major decisions for purchasing this unit was the ability to get the mating trim kit to complete the finished, built-in wall installation. Also, this microwave and the trim RK-51 trim kit were the same dimensions so it fit my existing cabinet wall opening perfectly. If you're interested in details of the trim kit and my experience installing it, then you might look for the review I've posted for the RK-51 trim kit.

Many aspects of this microwave are very similar to the one we replaced, so learning how to use it has been no big deal. I have not experienced any of the issues with door latch sticking as mentioned by one other reviewer on this site.

Our older unit did not have sensor, so I'm still deciding out how well I like it for reheating, etc., versus just my old approach of timed cooking/customer power settings.
The one thing where the sensor does seem to work really well is microwave popcorn. My wife/duaghters probably make popcorn almost every evening. We simply put it in, hit the button, and it comes out perfect every time with very, very few unpopped kernels. For this, the sensor seems to work really well figuring out exactly how long to run with consistently great results, even though every bag seems a little bit different length of time.

My husband and I received this microwave as a wedding present back in 2002. It was very large for the time, powerful, and it is nice that after all these years, it would still pass for a top of the line model. Yes the door sticks which can be annoying, but every push button appliance I've ever owned had the same issue over time. Springs get worn out, particularly with little kids and impatient husbands constantly banging both the release and the door itself. Our display also doesn't show numbers anymore, but maybe because we have moved five times and it always seems to get bumped and scratched. The buttons themselves still work and it microwaves beautifully ten years later. I'm reluctant to replace since it still works great, but we recently redid the kitchen with all stainless steel, so the black doesn't fit any longer. It seems like with a lot of the top brands and models, that consistent quality is a real issue. Some people get wonderful machines that last years while others get the junker on the manufacturing line that got through when the quality guy took a short nap. The Panasonic in particular seems to run 50/50 in terms of 5 star, 1 star ratings, and I'll admit it makes it very hard to choose a new microwave these days at a $200 and up investment with so many issues. If they had this is stainless, I'd buy another in a heart beat and cross my fingers!

We purchased this oven, and compared it side-by-side to our Sharp R530EK that we bought 10 years ago (the older one was starting to turn on unexpectedly, so we decided to replace it before the control board died). We also compared the new oven to a 1200W Kenmore Elite. Our new R530EK performed very well, and was identical to our original one, EXCEPT that it took roughly 30% longer to cook everything, compared to BOTH of the other two ovens. We thought it might be defective, so we contacted the seller, who, after checking, said that there was no point in shipping a replacement because ours was a common complaint and they would expect the replacement to perform similarly. So basically this is a very good ~900W or 1000W microwave. The seller had no problem taking it back and provided a full refund, but they did not cover our return shipping.

I had this same model microwave installed ten years ago and it has always been very noisy, but worked great. The number readout started to fail and I looked around to find a replacement. Since it is in a semi-built-in cabinet I needed the new oven to be the same general size. I was shocked to find that Sharp still makes this exact same model ten years later! I was a little reluctant to buy the same one because of the noise and the number problem and I saw other reviewers mention the same thing. But, I couldn't find anything that would fit with any better reviews so I took a chance. The new oven is literally exactly the same EXCEPT it is nearly silent when operating and it appears that the display has been changed, so maybe it will last longer this time. I wasn't sure if this seller might have a stock of old discontinued models, but the label in the oven said it was manufactured the month before I bought it, so it is definitely new. So far, so good, I was always happy with the performance and power of this model and now that it is quiet I'm very pleased with it.
