This is the first juicer I've owned, so I don't really have a comparison. However, I did do quite a bit of research before buying this. I went in to buy the Breville JE95XL but saw this stainless steel beauty and with it's $79 price tag and decided to go for it. Had it one day and that was more than enough.
1. very poor juicing all around, pulp left over had tons of moisture which means you're using way more (expensive) produce to get the same amt of juice. there goes the low price.
2. the stupid spout is too low to get a decent jar or cup under so you need to juice into a bowl or something, or else have a 2nd person hold your container at an angle while you're feeding produce into it.
3. GIANT mess. when i tried to run the soaking wet pulp back through the juicer to extract the rest of the juice, a juicy sludge poured out the SIDES all around the juice spout. got all over the juicer, the counter and everywhere.
4. the second time i juiced i smelled smoke. i am positive the thing would have broken very rapidly had i not just returned the piece of dung immediately.

I returned it and bought the Breville that I had originally planned on buying and it is a world of difference. light years better. i love love love it and highly recommend anyone considering a juicer in the under $200 range buy it. dry pulp, tons of juice. awesome design. no mess. easy clean up. p.s. if you use a 20% off coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond (they never expire, even if they say they do they don't) it's only gonna cost you $120, which is a very good price for such a great juicer.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the price, a good juicer, with some reservations, April 30, 2009
This review is from: The Sharper Image 8021SI Stainless-Steel 700-Watt Super Juicer (Kitchen)
This is the first juicer I've owned, so I don't really have a comparison. However, I did do quite a bit of research before buying this. Mine has the black top, not clear, so I can't see what's happening, but apart from that it's the same. I was very impressed with the motor. However, unlike the photos, I couldn't find small enough apples or pairs to go whole down the tube, and had to cut them in 1/4, but no problem. Also, the orange juice made from oranges with peel on (as suggested) tasted awful. Perhaps the really thin-peel oranges would be fine, but none available at the moment. I quickly discovered that although it says that you don't have to peel, the juice is much nicer for many fruits when you do - i.e. citrus, pineapple, mango - fruits that you wouldn't eat the peel anyway. I deducted one star because I did find that the clean-up took longer than expected. All these ads always show a 1-2-3 quick-clean but anyone who has juiced, and for those that haven't, you MUST clean immediately after juicing, otherwise those little bits of fruit stick to everything and are impossible to clean off and (Heaven forbid) can grow bacteria..... But quite honestly, for the price, I think it's a good deal - from what I've seen of much more expensive ones, this is comparable.

One last thing - I was surprised that the remaining pulp wasn't dryer for some fruits - seemed like you could extract more juice (especially pineapple) - but then the recipe book suggests using the pulp for muffins, and that seems like a great idea which I shall try.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sharper Image Customer Service pursuaded me to never buy Sharper Image products again, July 26, 2010
This review is from: The Sharper Image 8021SI Stainless-Steel 700-Watt Super Juicer (Kitchen)
This juicer (great look; at most average performance) broke after I used it for ~10 times. I needed to replace one part to make it functional again. I was willing to pay for it. I contacted the store I bought it in and Sharper Image Customer Service several times and each party constantly sent me to the other one. I called, emailed, and wrote to Sharper Image Customer Service and got the same reply all the time. They do not deal with such problems. I tried for 6 months. No success. I came to a simple solution though - the juicer is in the garbage. I will never again buy a product with the Sharper Image logo. Period.

1.0 out of 5 stars yikes, this is a doozy..., January 15, 2010
This review is from: The Sharper Image 8021SI Stainless-Steel 700-Watt Super Juicer (Kitchen)
I got this juicer for my birthday. I opened it and the metal part was not connected to the base. This is hard to explain but see where it says "The Sharper Image," on the bottom, on the side where the juice shoots out? That part was just hanging out and could have caused a serious injury. The metal edge was detached from the plastic base, like the ridges didn't match up and sharp, metal corner was sticking out. I was not happy.

I returned it to the store and exchanged it for the same thing (I know, I know). I made sure that the new one wasn't broken like the previous one. I used it once and didn't have an issue though I did notice that the pulp was still juice and huge pieces of fruit made it through to the pulp collector, so it somehow jumped out of the shredder thing and wasn't even juiced.

Tonight, I used it again. I was juicing apples and celery and it was a disaster. I peeled the apples and chopped them before sending them through and once again, there were big pieces that made it through the pulp collector. I juiced the celery and it clogged the spout so there was back up and juice shooting everywhere. The juice came out chunky and was splattering everywhere. I was disappointed but not devastated until the clean up started. There were chunks of celery and apples everywhere. Usually it would be in the top by the shredder thing and obviously in the pulp collector. This time it was under the shredder, in the shredder, and when I was wiping down the counter I noticed that there was a lot of juice on the counter. It was leaking from the bottom of the juicer, like it went through the machinery and came out in the vent at the bottom of the thing.

So, although this juicer is inexpensive and looks nice, avoid the frustration and mess...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, May 3, 2009
This review is from: The Sharper Image 8021SI Stainless-Steel 700-Watt Super Juicer (Kitchen)
Have been using the juicer for 3 weeks now. So far so good, juicing almost every day. Haven't had any issues juicing the tougher veggies. Occasionally the motor will slow down a bit and you have to push the food into the grinder, but it works. The pulp is still slightly damp, but the majority of the juice is extracted. For the price I am happy. Looks nice on the countertop too. My worst complaint: It's hard to find a cup that fits underneath the spout. Usually that means using a smaller cup, or using a bowl and pouring into a glass to drink. But oh well, I got it for [...] bucks at Macys. Hella cheap.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Juicy Hit in our Family, March 4, 2010

Just unpacked the juicer this morning and tried it for the first time. I am very happy with my purchase. I have a few tips for those that have never used a jucer before.

1) This model has a tilt spout be sure to flip it down when in use and up when switching out juice cups.

2) Turn the juicer on BEFORE droping in the first item to juice and let it spin up to speed. Let it run for about 5 seconds before adding anything.

3) Just the act of dropping in an item will usually cause it to start pulverising the fruit or vegitable. If that does not work drop in the pusher being sure to align the notch. Press gently.

4) Drop in only one item at a time. Yes you may have to cut some items into 3 sections to fit properly. Did you know that smaller fruits usually have more flavor than the same type that are larger?

5) If you hear a change in speed of the juicer that lasts more than a few seconds turn it off, unplug the juicer and clear the obstruction.

6) Do NOT run the juicer more than 2 minutes at a time.

7) Clean the juicer within a few minutes after use or you will spend extra time trying to remove dried pulp.

8) MOST IMPORTANT DO NOT force items into the juicer. You will only accomplish two things with force; bend the blades and burn out the motor. If you do need to press do so only lightly while rotating the plunger slightly from right to left.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke instantly, July 25, 2009

I bought this today for $69.00, great price!

I wanted to try a juice recipe (lemon, apples and grapes). The apple was too wide for the wide mouth opening so I started with the lemons first. I put the first lemon in, nothing happened. Motor roared. I turned it off and added a second lemon and pushed down. First sign of lemon juice...okay, its working. I pushed down some more and the thing started smoking. I quickly turned it off and the power outlet tripped. I took all the parts off and smell was coming for the motor.

No longer works and I got a 1/4 cup of lemon juice.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for most of the time..., January 25, 2010
This review is from: The Sharper Image 8021SI Stainless-Steel 700-Watt Super Juicer (Kitchen)
I had been considering the Breville JE95XL, but when I went to purchase that juicer they were not in stock, so I purchased this one instead, considering it had a lifetime warranty on the motor. I used it only once before I returned it. Here are my observations on the product.

- I juiced only two apples and found that the pulp was not completely processed (there were solid chunks of apple still remaining) and the pulp still had a great amount of juice. I ran the pulp through a second time and only a little more juice was extracted. So, my feeling is that this is greatly wasting the produce, if you don't core (in the case of apples) first and then use the resulting puree.

- Filter/blade was not simple to remove. It does not provide a lot of space to properly grab on to two sides to remove for cleaning. I have small fingers and thought I was going to break it by having to wedge my finger in between the juice catcher and blade edge on one side.

+/- Clean up was relatively easy. There aren't many corners that pulp can get wedged into and I didn't need the brush, although I did clean it right after I was finished. There are only three removable pieces to wash, and the rest can be wiped down. Some juice did get into the area below the juice catcher where the motor engages the blades and had to be wiped away.

+ The machine ran quitely and the saftey feature that prevents operation, if not assembled correctly, is a plus.

We had purchased The Sharper Image Juicer a few weeks ago and the spout where the juice comes out is very sensitive. It gets gunky in the corner of that spout and when you try to clean it, the thing breaks open and there is a tiny little spring that falls out. It did this 2 times and we took it back the second time b/c I couldn't find the little spring. We exchanged it for another one and when I opened the box with the new one in it, I saw a tag on the cord that says "This product may contain lead, which may lead to birth defects, cancer, etc." We took it back and got our money back. Do not even waste your time with this juicer! Or your health! I just thought that was crazy! The first Sharper Image juicer we had didn't say this, so just be careful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Juicer, September 25, 2009
This review is from: The Sharper Image 8021SI Stainless-Steel 700-Watt Super Juicer (Kitchen)
I'm new to the juicing world, but wanted to chime in. After previously using a magic bullet to liquefy produce, this was a very welcome departure. After unboxing, I flipped the switch to power it on and my wife and I were surprised that it was so quiet (moreso than the bullet). It didn't have any problems with the pound of carrots, two apples, and celery I fed it. I was surprised at how much it extracted because I ran all the pulp through a second time and very little came out. I did have to cut the apples a bit though, but it didn't take but a second. All the pieces are modular so you can wash them easily enough too. I just need to figure out how to clean the pulp out because I don't have a garbage disposal. Maybe I can adopt a vegetarian pet. Overall great juicing experience.
