4.0 out of 5 stars Great backpack for the music lover!!!
This is a great backpack. I needed to get a backpack since I am going back to school. First thing is that the speaker is detachable. It also has pop out stands so you can stand it up. Its a great speaker for camping or going to the beach. The speaker is really good quality for something that only takes 3 AA batteries! There are several ways to hook it up...

This is a great backpack. I needed to get a backpack since I am going back to school. First thing is that the speaker is detachable. It also has pop out stands so you can stand it up. Its a great speaker for camping or going to the beach. The speaker is really good quality for something that only takes 3 AA batteries! There are several ways to hook it up.

First, you can put your MP3 player in the back of the speaker. You can do this while the speaker is attached or detached. It has its own headphone jack in the back and can be used entirely separately. That is the best feature about it.

Second, you can put your mp3 player directly in the front of the backpack in a clear pouch pocket on the strap. There is an extension with another headphone jack in the front. You can plug in either the headphone jack from the back into it, or a pair of headphones.

Pros:
-Great sounding portable speaker system
-lots of room in the backpack
-many storage compartments
-durable
-relatively light weight for a backpack with a built in speaker
-convenient places to put mp3 player.
-Detachable speaker is great
-a pretty good backpack for school, camping, or whatever you use a pack for.

Cons:
-No sternum strap. With so many backpacks having these today it is missed in this backpack simply because the sternum strap's purpose is to distribute the weight evenly. It is a missed necessity, but because of the big padding, it is tolerable without it.
-No place for a pair of headphones to stick out of the top. You have to make them come out of the zipper. It is more of a nitpicky thing, but would have been a nice addition.
-No volume control on the speaker itself. Probably save power this way, but if I could balance the speaker volume with the MP3 volume I can probably even better quality. The quality is still good though, I just like to be able to turn it up louder without the distortion and not having a volume control on the speaker itself does not enable me to do that.

All in all this is a good backpack. It has a very padded snug fit to it. There is a laptop pouch in it as well as many pouches and pencil holders. The speaker can be used with anything that takes a standard headphone jack so it works for portable DVD players, laptops, etc.... I have also tried out the speaker with all kinds of music from heavy metal, to hip hop, to smooth jazz, to country, and it really sounds good with all of them. Has a good bass for a 3 AA battery speaker! If your looking for a backpack and a portable speaker all at the same time, this saves you time and effort. Good buy and I would highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality backpack. Great price., February 13, 2010

If you are looking for a backpack, this is an excellent choice. It serves its purpose, and has the added bonus of having a detachable speaker.

I was looking for a backpack and saw this exact backpack speaker at the Base Exchange for $59.99. I would have bought it there but they did not have one in black. I found a black one on Amazon for $38.99 and ordered it immediately. I received it in just 4 days.

This is a well made, quality backpack with many pockets. It has plenty of room for books, iPod or Smart Phone, computer, etc. The speaker requires 3 AA batteries and sounds great considering the size.

My wife saw the backpack, heard the sound, and wanted one as well. I ordered one for her today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Backpack for all seasons, July 5, 2011

I replaced my old shoulder backpack with this beauty from Sharper Image. I have long been a Sharper Image customer the name is synominous with quality. I am totally happy with this piece of art. The many Xtra pockets for pens, glasses, my Ipod and of course my camera & DroidX have proven to very useful in many ways. I also carry an assortment of headphones, connectors and chargers. I added a remote for my Ipod so I can turn the volume up & down and also to sort through my 160GB of tunes. The sound is top notch. I can also remove the speaker from the backpack and enjoy my music at a picnic or at home. It faithfully reproduces the full spectrum of sound without a hint of distortion. I can listen to my music without blaring it out and annoying those sitting close to me. This handy backpack is a must have for music lovers of all ages. "I like it allot" and would recommend it to all of my friends. It's a winner !!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sharper Image Rocks, November 15, 2010

Overall, a great backpack. It can be heavy at times, because of the speaker. My only problem is that I wish I could take off the speaker and not have the ugly cord sticking out of the backpack. I absolutely love the bright colors it comes in, I got the pink one for myself. My 15 inch laptop fits snugly in the laptop sleeve. I could not ask for a better backpack!

I bought this backpack as a birthday present for my 11 year old nephew and he absolutely loves it! While he's waiting to be picked up from school, he plugs his ipod into the speaker and plays music for all his friends that are waiting too. The sound is really decent and the speaker detaches if you want to play your ipod somewhere else. He loves this backpack and is a big hit at school!

4.0 out of 5 stars So Far So Good, September 21, 2010

(VINE VOICE)
My old shoulder bag finally gave way, and as EVERYone seems to have a backpack these days, and the price was right.... ANYway, I've got the laptop, two mid-sized dictionaries, one of those business zip-up notepad thingies, a couple stray paperbacks, various supplies and papers in the thing, and it hasn't split or pulled apart. In the past two weeks.

Oh, and the stereo part seems to work pretty well, although I'm not actually using it with an iPod or whatever. I plug it into my laptop to blast some tunes while I ellipti-cize. For that it's a little awkward, as the cord isn't long enough to easily orient the speakers when plugged into the laptop's output (headphone) jack.

It doesn't strike me as enormous, but I'm not packing any clothes. It's nice to have a drink holder, and there's a little pocket-y thing opposite that's useful for small stuff, like flash drives and sticky pads.

The fabric or whatever that divides the sections seems a little flimsy, but what do I know about backpacks? It's getting the job done, so for now, a perhaps overly-cautious 4 stars.
