5.0 out of 5 stars Sci-Fi like Clock and Caller ID
This thing is great. I have it in one corner of my computer room. I can see its caller id information from anywhere in the room. With the lights on or off. It looks like something from a Buck Rodgers movie. It has instant WOW effect on anyone who comes over. One of my friends went out and bought one after seeing mine.

The idea behind this caller ID unit is really wonderful. I can just watch it go through its different patterns for hours. However there are a few things that I do not like about it. My wife and I decided to put this unit in our kitchen and we can distinctly hear the motor whirling even over the sound of the refrigerator. The buttons are not well designed and you have to...

This thing is great. I have it in one corner of my computer room. I can see its caller id information from anywhere in the room. With the lights on or off. It looks like something from a Buck Rodgers movie. It has instant WOW effect on anyone who comes over. One of my friends went out and bought one after seeing mine.

It switches back and fourth between modes while it runs. Sometimes it will tell you the time, other times the date. It also has cute messages tied to what date it is. So it will wish you a Merry Christmas, or a Happy New year. (I've only had it part of December) so this is all I've seen.

It is not holographic. There is a small bar that spins around very fast. By turning the LED's on and off it can create the illusion of a floating scrolling text. It must have some sort of internal computer that's updating the dots on the spinning bar at a very fast speed. The LED's are very bright and can be easily read from across the room.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it!, December 12, 2004
This review is from: Sharper Image Info Globe Scrolling Caller ID (Electronics)
I've wanted this thing for about a year now, but it's one of those things I wouldn't buy for myself. I got it as a gift and I think it's really great. It looks cool and stylish. It displays the date and time. Even better, it displays incoming calls via caller ID in larger letters than the usual caller ID box. I can see it from across the room, which is very helpful when you're busy and screening calls. You can also enter custom messages (Happy Anniversary/Happy Birthday, etc.) for a little extra *warm & fuzzy* touch. I'm very pleased with it and will probably be giving them as gifts for the hard-to-buy-for types.

The idea behind this caller ID unit is really wonderful. I can just watch it go through its different patterns for hours. However there are a few things that I do not like about it. My wife and I decided to put this unit in our kitchen and we can distinctly hear the motor whirling even over the sound of the refrigerator. The buttons are not well designed and you have to push them just right to get the command input. On the positive side, the instruction book that comes with the unit is well written and very easy to follow. Installation was a snap and the unit even came with the backup batteries. It looks GREAT and is really fun to watch. I would recommend it to others as long as it is going somewhere other than a bedroom or other room that you like to have silence in.

This is my mother's third Info Globe. The display is great for her failing eyes. The reason this is her thrid: An nearby lightning strike took out the first. The second one just started malfunctioning after about a year and a half.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharper Image Caller I.D. Globe, April 3, 2007

I feel so Hi Tech having this revolving lit globe that tells me who is calling, the date, the time, and various holiday messages. It lights up my computer room with a beautiful blue light and gives the room a cheery look. I just love it!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lasts about a year and noisy, May 15, 2007

First off, It's VERY cool. It comes w/1 yr. warranty (save your proof of purchase!) or buy the 2 or 5yr replacement warranty offered by some stores (sharper image offers them).
A fun item and handy thats for sure. But after a short while extremely noisy buzz/vibration that can't do much about. It gets louder with time. If that's not gonna bug you, go for it as it "is" a fun conversation piece. It didn't bother my husband but I couldn't stand it. My globe lasted a bit over a year.

1.0 out of 5 stars Quality Problems Clobber a Good Idea, December 28, 2007
This review is from: Sharper Image Info Globe Scrolling Caller ID (Electronics)
I received two of these from Radio Shack for my birthday. One had no power supply and had to be returned to the manufacturer for replacement. The second became intermittent after about 8 months and is currently being replaced under warranty. When it worked, I loved the functionality. Now that it is not working, I get irritated every time the phone rings and I'm reminded that it quit working.

I received two more of these from Sharper Image for Christmas. One self-destructed within 24 hours of being put into service. The second has yet to be installed as I decide whether it is worth the effort. Also, they have shortened the warranty period from 1 year to 90 days. This is a clear sign that they know they have design problems and are cutting their losses.

So if you like this product, be prepared to replace it often. I'm hoping someone else will make a more reliable model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Globe Scrolling LED Message Center, March 21, 2007

Love the way this product performs, easily viewable from across a room which was exactly what we needed. Image is clear and sharp and works well both in the daylight and at night as long it is not placed in a brightly lit or sunny area. Light is a little bright for nighttime if placed in a bedroom, it should have a bright and dim mode setting as well as an automatic dimmer setting.

Overall I am very pleased with the product and all the little extras that it includes.

Item lasted 1 year and a few days before it would light up only randomly to the point where the unit is now usless.

Would like to be able to change review from 5 star to 2 star but am unable to do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent purchase, February 11, 2007
This review is from: Sharper Image Info Globe Scrolling Caller ID (Electronics)
it is so great not to have to get up and go find the phone to try and see who is on it, this lights up and is very readable from across the room, even for 45 year old eyes. We love the automatic messages it has programmed in it for holidays. you can also program it yourself. do take the time to read the instructions on how to operate it, or you will be frustrated if you attempt it on your own. it is worth it!
