I got this for my boyfriend for his birthday. I'll admit--I was skeptical about massage cushions. I remember sitting in one years ago and it was more irritating than pleasant. The Sharper Image cushion is worlds apart from that experience. The rollers really provide your back with some real massage action, and the heat feels great. It's not as good as a massage from a real person, but it seems to be the next best thing...and for the price, it's worth it!

Bought this yesterday and brought it to the hospital tonite for many of the staff to try. Can say that everyone...EVERYONE...loved it. It could be tailored to suit everyone's individual needs. I think I sold several just by letting others trial it! What I personally love is that the massage action is deep....not wimpy. Choose a chair with a high back and the ability to slightly recline and the term "who needs a man" comes to mind. Love LOVE this product. Worth every dime.

My husband bought me this unit to remedy an old back injury. The remote offers shiatsu and rolling massages with or without heat. I can also change the width of the area I want worked on and make it due spot massage. The directions do say not to use heat while using spot massage, but I think that is for the user's safety.
I love the unit. My only complaint is that in order for the massage to reach my problem area, I had to raise myself up by sitting on a pillow. Other than that, it is an awesome machine. Very powerful rollers.

This thing has dropped in price within the last 7 days. It has gone from $150 to $120. It is probably an excellent time to buy it now. This was the boyfriend's Christmas gift, and I thought it was worth the 150 price tag because of the excellent reviews.

We have owned it only a week, but so far these are our experiences:

-At his first use, he used it as suggested (leaning back on it). But then he thought it would be more comfortable to lie down on it and he said it was. He fell asleep on it for a few hours. I thought the thing was done for, but it was still working the next day.
-It has velcro wraps around the back to wrap it around a chair for stability but I don't know what chair is that narrow. That is kind of dumb.
-This thing is powerful. When it goes up and down my back in the "Shiatsu" setting I can feel my knots being kneaded away. It's been cold and rainy in California so I have been wearing a fleece sweater most times I've used this machine, and this massager is powerful enough to give a good and deep massage despite wearing something as thick as fleece.
-My boyfriend doesn't like the how the quad rollers light up in blue even in the off position (he says it's cheesy). The only way to turn them off is to unplug it.
-The "heat" setting doesn't really get the massager hot. It seems to be one level just below warm but it is also Winter right now, and might just be distorting that feature. The rollers get a red glow instead of the standard blue one when this setting is activated.
-I alternate between the "Shiatsu" and "Rolling" settings because Shiatsu gets to be too much, especially when it's set to target one spot on your back using the "Spot" setting. But when in "Rolling" or "Shiatsu" setting, the options are either to massage the Full Back, Upper Back, or Lower Back. With the "Rolling" option, you can customize the width of the rollers.
-The controller feels kinda cheap. It feels like a toy and when you click on it, it makes that plastic clicky sound that is reminiscent of children's toys.
-For as powerful as it is, the motor is pretty quiet.

Tips:
-For the best results it needs to be very vertical. (Personally, I lean it against a wall or the side of a bed as chairs tend to have this sort of reclining lean to it).
-To take full advantage of all FOUR rollers it needs to be vertical so those all can hit your back.
-Also how you lean back on it makes a difference. I put all my weight it in and get as deep of a massage I can out of it.

Overall I am impressed. It saves a trip to the masseuse. It targets my problem area, or more preferably I can make it target my problem areas. I don't think you'll be disappointed especially if you like more of the deep tissue kind of massages.

I will update this review over time. But so far so good. I'm glad I purchased it. I might purchase a second set to gift it for my dad.

My first Sharper Image product and I'm impressed! I just tried mine out for the first time and I didn't want to stop. Good thing it has an auto shut-off or I'd probably stay on it all night. This product is definitely for people who like deep-tissue massage since that is the only setting (though the rolling massage offers a nice variation). If you are sensitive/delicate, do not bother trying this massager! I have popping, tight knots in my shoulders and this massager was working them good. I am feeling more benefit from this than I have from several recent human massages, and I'm hoping regular use will help me banish the knots completely! Now if I could get one to work on my calves and legs...I might have to buy a Sharper Image handheld model for that!

This chair really gets in and works the lower back (my problem area). I tried multiple chairs including Homedics Chairs and this cushion is the best by far. You will quickly move passed the demo feature and want to start customizing it for your personal experience. Very easy to operate. Plug and Play! Enjoy!

Well I was looking EVERYWHERE at different Shiatsu cushions, definately wanted to avoid Homedics (They like to churn out everything as cheap as possible and dont at all seem to think about quality), and my eyes fell on this baby.I got it yesterday. POWERFUL, I was completely not expecting this but it has real POWER, this thing is pushing me around on it and doesnt care how much weight is pressed against it its gonna DIG in there and knead your back. Now I was a lil feisty the first go and admit my back got REAL sore and it doesnt roll, it has this wave-like pulsing of the arms with rounded ends that do the kneading. When you need a penetrating massage this chmpion will absolutely stun you BUT now I'm looking for a less powerful shiatsu for that every day feel good kinda massage.Dont get me wrong LOVE this thing but unless your back is really hurting its like pulling out a tactical nuke to shoot a pigeon lol.

This massage cushion was on display at a store I go to. I kept going back to the store and trying this out. So, I decided to check it out on Amazon (which, by the way, is the best place to buy on the internet). I love this massager because it really does a deep massage on the back muscles. I've had mid-back aches for years and even massage therapists have not been able get the kinks out like this massager does. I am absolutely pleased. If you don't want a deep massage, then this is not the right item. I am absolutely relaxed and my back feels great when done. The heat is a plus. This is well worth what was paid for it.

I had to return mine because the heat wasn't working properly, and Amazon replaced this with a new one in just a few days and I printed a label from Amazon to return it. Their return policy and commitment is one of the best I've ever worked with. They stick by their shipping policies. What a great company!!

This product is just what you need for a good, deep massage. However, if you want a gentler action, it can also do that. Love all the options it gives for what works best for each individual.

I wouldn't say its the best massage cushion out there but its surely worth the price. I just wish it had more variety in its motions.
