5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable noise cancelling headphones
I have wanted a pair of the Bose headphones for years but could not justify the 350 dollar price tag. I had tried the Sony 40 dollar noise cancelling headphones and the 90 dollar Shure in ear noise reducing headphones and was not impressed. I have just purchased and used the Sharper Image headphones which were on sale for 35 dollars, normally 70 dollars. The fellow...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not High Quality
When the noise canceling is turned on they do work, but they're poor quality and don't withstand consistent use for long. What's interesting is that my Sennheiser HD 280 headphones are able to block out more noise without battery assistance, are higher quality with better sound, and have lasted a lot longer. If you're looking to block out noise I'd go with the Sennheiser...

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable noise cancelling headphones, March 27, 2007
This review is from: Sharper Image Noise Cancellation Headphones 2.0 (Electronics)
The fellow next to me on the plane had the Bose so I was able to do a direct comparison. I would give the Bose a 10 in every category except cost, and the SI phones a 9 in every category except cost and value. For cost and value this product earns a 10. The noise reducing capability of the SI phones was outstanding and just about as good as the Bose. You would be hard pressed to tell the difference in Noise reduction capability. The Bose did have a slightly higher end sound quality but the sound of the SI phones was extremely good. If you can afford to spend 350 without batting an eye, get the Bose. If not, then RUN and get the SI phones while they are still on sale. Even at 70 dollars they are well worth it and they performed remarkably well on the airplane. They were extremely comfortable and I was continually impressed and delighted with this gem of a product. They are well designed and well made. I wore them for 3 hours straight on the plane with and was continually impressed. One little trick I discovered in using them on the plane was that if you manipulate the ear cups slightly, positioning them precisely over your ears, you can block out almost all of the engine sounds as they passively reduce the engine noise as well! Final thought... a fantastic product. Do NOT hesitate in buying these, you will not regret your purchase!!

I left my $300.00 Brookstone NC headphones on a plane once and purchased the Sharper Image NC headphone at an electronics shop in Frankfurt airport.Electronics in Europe are usually 25-50% higher than in the US even if one buys at the airport. However, I have been amazed at the value I have received with this small traveling but big comfort and sound headphones. There would never be a reason why one should spend $200. plus more on a headphone. This is a first rate product and it delivers great sound with excellent comfort.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Too Bad For The Price..., March 19, 2007

Not too bad - and I just noticed you get a 90 day warranty too!!!? Way to stand behind your product.

I'll give these 4-stars because they've held up so well and for so many years (and flights), but I've moved on and like my new ones a lot better: JVC 100s?

These aren't full ear cups so they rest on the ears. They're very, very comfortable for an hour or so but then it starts to get to me because of the pressure on the ears. It's funny because the ear pads are very soft - it's a combination of the pressure on top and then the sides. Maybe a personal preference - I can say I've had these for years and they fold up very compact and have held up well on many flights over the past two years. The batteries last forever - I think two sets in two years.

My wife has liked them also (smaller ears) but has complained a little about them. I lean toward the full cup ones these days. They're not as compact but there's no pressure on the ears and they filter out a lot of noise even without turning on the noise cancelling feature. Yes, full ear cups get a little hot sometimes and they sure don't look cool but their my first choice from now on - but I can always hear the sound and movies now too without fiddling with the equalizer settings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Product For Price - Immediately Impressed, March 28, 2007

Flying to Asia I wanted noise canceling headphones for the flight. I researched different options and was reluctant to spend a lot, seeing many poor user reviews on much higher priced products. I read a couple solid reviews for these and thought the risk was low for the price.

These are very solid on the airplane and I highly recommend them! They reduce a significant amount of airpline engine noise and make listening to your ipod, a movie, or just relaxing significantly more enjoyable. While they do not reduce the noise on the air plane 100% they make a very significant dent.

They don't seem to work as well for non-airplane noises, however, for the price and for airplane usage I highly highly recomment these.

-Smart design
-Durable
-Comfortable even for long hours
-Good battery life

You can't go wrong for the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars does a great job for the price, March 29, 2007

I love these headphones. I work in an office with tons of cubes and it does an excellent job of cancelling out the background noises. A co-worker has a pair that cost over $150 and they are not much better than these...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad budget option, March 24, 2007

While not totally cutting out all sound, this value option works well and is comfortable to wear. It does lower the volume in an airplane considerably. It's not totally blocked out but for the price, it's great!

If you're looking for great quality sound, I'd recommend the Sennheiser HD 555s (though they're open so no noise blocking whatsoever).

I have never had the pleasure of using some of the more expensive noise cancelling headphones, but I found these to be very good. At less than one quarter the price of Bose, these are provide good sound quality and are effective at cancelling a great deal of background noise. Plus, I like the way they fold up nicely for traveling.

I have used these headphones in my 14 hrs flights to Asia, and the truth is that they cancell most of the annoying noise.
Of course you can not compare with some $200+ items, but they are just great for the price.

To see if noise cancelling headphones really work, I and my friend purchased 4 sets of headphones including the Bose Quiet Comfort 3 and bring them on a flight for a reality test. This pair of Sharper Image headphone cancel only a small portion of ambiance noise while the bigger brothers worked fairly well. No wonder it is on sale.

Don't waste your money. Get a pair of Sennheiser, or even better, the Bose. I was surprised a company like Sharper Image which usually has good product totally flopped on this product.
