4.0 out of 5 stars Now you CAN enjoy music anywhere you want!
Appearance: The wireless speakers have an aerodynamic appearance to them and are made out of plastic. I'm fine with the plastic because I plan to use these outside and if it starts to rain or gets hit with the hose, I won't have to worry about anything.

Reception: I live in a townhouse with 4 units per building and the signal seems to work pretty darn good! I...

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be great
I've been using these speakers for about 2 weeks and haven't been impressed at all. It seemed like they were ok at first, but I periodically lose the signal to one of the speakers every few seconds or so. I've tried everything to resolve this by the way, taking out the batteries and plugging them into the power cord, even carrying them into the house, near the...

I plugged the transmitter into my computer headphone jack (located in my basement) and the audio signals pass through the walls and floors. I was able carry the speakers to my first floor, second floor, outside and in my garage all with clear reception. The "auto tune" feature works great to find the clearest signal and I haven't experienced any problems with cordless phones causing interference.

Volume/Tuning controls: Having the volume and tuning controls on the speakers and on the wireless remote control make it easy to control the volume from anywhere.

Power: Each speaker requires 6 C batteries which tends to get a little pricey. However, the package also includes 2 AC power cords so you can just plug it in and run it off of electricity. So far, I've ran my speakers only on the batteries for about 5 hours and the batteries don't seem to be dying yet.

Sound: OK, now for the most important question, what kind of sound quality do these things put out? If you're expecting absolute, superior sound quality (like you would from some top of the line, wired speakers) then you may want to re-evaluate the idea of wireless speakers. If you're just looking to sit outside on the porch, around the pool or just kick back and listen to some music, these will work JUST fine! At first, the speakers sounded a bit bass heavy and somewhat "booming." But, after I adjusted all the audio settings on my computer (the source of the music), the quality GREATLY improved!

I've tried everything to resolve this by the way, taking out the batteries and plugging them into the power cord, even carrying them into the house, near the transmitter, adjusting the volume on the source. Not sure if cell phones are causing the interference but I'll probably return them soon.

I am learning that hard-wired speakers are the way to go if you want really good outdoor sound. I checked these wireless speakers out at the Sharper Image store; they are cheap plastic, the sound is very poor quality, and each speaker has to be fiddled with independently and sometimes loses the signal. One of the two speakers in the store was even broken. When you're entertaining, you want the background music to be good quality and effortless, right? If you still think you want these, go see them in person in a Sharper Image store, and then decide.

My husband and I bought this with high hopes we could listen out by the pool but the speakers were soooo very scratchy and NOT worth the money at all!

4.0 out of 5 stars Buying a second set, February 12, 2009

This review is from: Sharper Image SR277 - Left / right channel speakers (Electronics)
I bought these speakers for my parents for Christmas several years ago. They still use them, and I am buying them a second set. The signal will go through walls & rooms, and the speakers work great outdoors with the base antenna indoors. My parents' home is large (3500+ sq ft), and the speakers work in all locations throughout the house. My only complaint is that they do tend to cut out for a second when people are standing or walking between the base antenna and speaker.
