This review is from: Shashbo (Audio CD)
thomas shields and matt skillings have yet again pulled off the feat of producing a quality album with as few animal fatalities as possible. in their debut album "melee" there was a definite hint of talent with a dash of unique, and a cup full of keyboard. this combination of martha stewart music shocked the local community and paved way for their brand of experimental pop that haunts the mind and plucks at the soul. "a new peak in lowdowness", their second album, offered a more adventerous sound which was an evolved, mature version of melee's subtle garage band pop eccentricities. this album was also a firm foundation for the fantastic things yet to come... shashbo! upon capturing two other worldly creatures and setting up a musical sweatshop, the musicians produced brilliant experimental noises with sad melodic melodies and the anguish ET felt to return home is apperant in every track but especially apperant in such tracks as "f***ing up can be fun" and "giddy in a headset". "Jacques and Madeleine" starts the album off with an angsty tale about two lovers, two lovers you instantly care about without even knowing their names. soon you realise however, their names are "Jacques and Madeleine". go figure. another must hear track is "Blue Bike", this track is pure fun in the bright blue sun, and if shashbo had a mascott song i'd definatly have to go with blue bike which best describes the direction the band has taken in terms of a developing love of the experimental genre. the talented combination of electronic noises fused with lyrical phrases has created one of the best indie albums of last year. make no mistake run chico run has formed a collection of whimsical witty albums and they even do it in style. really, what more could you ask for?
some sites to check out their sound: www.runchicorun.com [...] both sites give free full length songs, the second one however, gives atleast 10 tracks ranging from their newest shashbo songs to their timely old melee sounds. p.s. if you don't believe in the exploitation of extra terrestrials to manufacter music then this album might not be for you, but then again what artist isn't exploiting aliens to some extent in our current day and age?
