A Missed Opportunity,

It provides an insight into the after effects of a major conflict that substantially defined this country's self image and mindset. Which gets it a 3 star rating.
Notwithstanding I found it a frustrating read. It covers considerable terrain. Perhaps reflecting its genesis as an academic study, the author makes a number of proposals, based to a large degree (perhaps inevitably) on anonymous information. It lacks the impact that more substantial first party information might have provided. As is provided in 'the Broken Years' and '1918 A very British Victory' on different issues, which give memory to history. |
