Book Description

July 22, 2000
Two books in one. Book one, St. Clairs Defeat. A never told version of why our army was defeated on November 4, 1791. A defeat that makes Custers Last Stand pale in comparison.

Book Two: Greeneville Peace Treaty council minutes. The actual minutes of the council meeting held at fort Greeneville in 1795. A must read for students of history.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Book Two: Greeneville Peace Treaty council minutes is a rare compilation of the actuals speeches at this meeting that started in early July and ended in August 1795. A true and interesting piece of history.

From the Author

There is always the rest of story and this is what I portray in Shattered Glory. The men who lived to tell wrote letters, or kept diaries and we get a clear idea of what took place, not the "accepted" excuses. Each little piece contributed makes the picture clearer and easier to understan.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Shattered Glory" by John Albert Murphy, August 23, 2000

This review is from: Shattered Glory : Book Two Greeneville Peacy Treaty (Paperback)
John A. Murphy's rendition of the Indian wars north of the Ohio, belies the tale of General St. Clair's men "throwing down their guns and running for their lives." This exciting historical work depicts not only the American side of the battles but brings the reader into the Indian nation to view their perspective. This author brings the reader right into the battlefields to feel the bayonet wound, the tomahawk's swift cleaving of a skull, and hear the screams of the men and women as they are scalped while still alive.

The reader finds himself becoming angry at the lack of training, food and clothing that faced these frontier soldiers who were sent to do battle hundreds of miles from home. While sharing the trials with these soldiers, the author shares excerpts of letters that they've written before and after the battles to bring the reader to a more personal level with them.

General St. Clair underwent bitter resentment from the family of his second-in-command for the remainder of his life. They sued him and left him to live in poverty and dispair. Our historians in the far past weren't too keen in their reports and too many papers were lost, burned or stolen, leaving our history poorly recorded. It is to men like Mr. Murphy, that we extend our gratitude for their relentless pursuit of the truth.

"Shattered Glory" is a must purchase.
