Book Description

The nightmares never stop.

Amanda escaped her abusive past, but old wounds never truly heal. They scar.

Meanwhile in Minnesota, siblings Nate and Maggie are struggling to keep the family farm afloat after their parents’ fatal car accident. An online job posting brings the three together, and Amanda finds herself living under the same roof as two twenty-somethings still struggling to come to terms with their grief.

While Amanda quickly befriends Maggie, winning over work-obsessed Nate is more complicated. He's too proud to admit he needs a farmhand's help and Amanda is wary of his temper as it triggers painful memories.

To make matters worse, Amanda feels an attraction to Nate that’s hard to ignore. Will they ever be able to nurture their budding romance, or will their demons prove to be too much to overcome?

This book contains explicit adult situations.
It is the first part of the Shattered trilogy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Really? April 18, 2014
By penpal
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am going to sound really negative here, but the book segment thing is getting old! This deserves a better rating except for a few minor editing and proofreading errors and TMI about Amanda's fantasies...and then there is the poorly segmented drop off to get me to buy the next episode. It's a book, not a soap opera!

I love the story line and the characters, but I am tired of having to get three books to finish the story. I'd much rather pay more for the 315 page book and be able to enjoy it instead of the three 105 page book segments. Let me know when you actually write a book because you have wonderful potential.

I really enjoyed this. I am only giving 4 stars because I agree with another reviewer about the books being released in parts (very frustrating when you want to find out the next part). There were some proofing errors (which is very distracting to me when I read). This isn't a very long read (which can be good or bad) and it does leave you wanting to know what happens next with the characters. There isn't a lot of very descriptive love scenes, which is a nice change to some of the other romance novels out there. Overall, it's a good story line and interesting characters!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun First Part March 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book, although I'm not a big fan of books released in parts. I'd much rather pay a couple of extra dollars more for an entire book. This seems to be the trend now though. It was a good story and I've enjoyed the development of the characters in the book and I'm interested to see where the story goes from here. There were some editing/proofreading errors that distracted me, but overall I'm looking forward to the next part in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quick read March 25, 2014

Ok so I definitely like this book, I lived how she was haunted by a past with the ex boyfriend, but doesn't go it to much detail about it all. Makes you think there is more there then what you first hear. I also love the older brother trying to protect the farm and make his sister happy and not seeing what's in front of him, and that he's falling in love. The little sister is great doesn't matter that the brother is older she stands up for what she wants and believes in and just wants her brother to take time for him self.

I am dying to know how the story unfolds

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy fun, nothing deep April 30, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A quick disclaimer: This is not a stand-alone novel, but really a free preview. You have to purchase part two separately.

Shattered Hearts is the story of Amanda, a woman who escaped an abusive relationship but continues to suffer nightmares about bloody encounters with her ex. Her symptoms seem like post-traumatic stress disorder, with frequent nightmares and an inability to function in normal life.

Amanda ends up moving to a farm in Minnesota where she is taken in by siblings Nate and Maggie. Maggie is sweet as can be and perfect for nurturing Amanda, while Nate is a sexy, ill-mannered neanderthal of man, and turns out to be just what Amanda needs.

Amanda begins to tame the savage human beast by displaying a knack for taming Penny, a horse with a past as troubled as Amanda's.

The plot is unoriginal and the dialogue is predictable. The characters are not deep or well-developed, and Amanda's moods seem only to swing between gloomy and aroused. Amanda's fish-out-of-water setting with the gruff cowboy should be a good set-up for some flippant remarks and snappy comebacks, but they just never emerge.

Still, if you need a quick escape from reality, this is an easy book to jump into.

4.0 out of 5 stars Learning to give and to receive July 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author takes us on a trip from California to Minnesota as a young woman answers an online ad for a farm job when she has never even been on a farm! The terrain is totally different from what she has known. The sky is broad and daunting. The farm is beyond what she had imagined. At the end of a long an tortuous journey, she learns that the farm, its crops, its animals, its operation are under the direction of a young man and his younger sister. Their parents were killed together and the siblings vow to make a go of the farm in honor of those parents. The young man is quiet and brooding and seems to be unaware that the woman who has answered his ad for a farm hand is capable of doing anything at all. His sister welcomes the presence of another woman and the help which will release her to study for her college classes and have a life with her friends. So, the question the reader encounters involves how will these three young people make a go of the farm. Can the young Californian learn the ways of the farm and how to handle the animals and other duties? Can the young man get past his moodiness and accept help? Can the sister make a life on both fronts? Can you guess? Read this and see.
