Pretty Good----you won't be dissapointed,
By
This review is from: Shattered (Paperback)
I finished some of my favorite authors (Lehane & Connolly)and was trying to branch out. I happened to come accros "Shattered," it seemed to have all the things I like; FBI, a serial killer, and even a mention on the cover comparing it to the "Sixth Sense."
It was good, not great, but good. It kept me going and didn't drag. I guess the only complaints that I do have comes from the comparison to the "Sixth Sense." It seemed a little forced. There was also a huge leap in the story as to how the FBI figures out who the killer is. No Thomas Harris, but an enjoyable read. I would read other Bonasinga books.

FBI police procedural,
This review is from: Shattered (Paperback)
In Northern Virginia FBI profiler Ulysses Grove receives his latest major field assignment: stop the Mississippi Ripper, a serial killer, who murders in pairs before the culprit slices up his victims. His grotesque portrait of death is to have two people facing one another. Grove methodically follows the clues and believes he is unlocking his opponent's psychopathic mindset, yet the rampaging killer continues his vicious homicides seemingly ignoring the Fed trailing in the murderer's row.
However Grove and his FBI compatriots will underestimate their elusive vicious foe. Using his paranormal skill, he targets Ulysses' wife, Maura and their infant son Aaron as a pair to disembowel. Meanwhile Grove keeps on digging applying his mother's supernatural visions to guide him. The third Grove FBI police procedural (see FROZEN and TWISTED) is an exciting thriller that cleverly balances the varying elements from the paranormal to profiling to old fashion sleuthing foot work. The key cast members seem genuine even when using special psychic like power as Grove does because he is a loving family man and the terrifying Mississippi Ripper feels like a Headlines News killer. SHATTERED is a taut cat and mouse tale with the hero's family as the cheese. Harriet Klausner

I really enjoyed this book. It definitely did not drag and kept me reading. This was my first book by this author and unfortunately, the next book in the series, Unleashed, is not available from the Kindle store. I searched for it immediately after finishing Shattered. I couldn't wait to start the next book! Great mystery with a couple of unexpected turns!

The most intense thriller I have read to date. For me, this is one of the best novels of the genre.
Indeed, this novel is so intense that I could not read it cover to cover without allowing myself mental breaks. Imagine average Joe, a hard-working man who comes home to his wife and kids at night. You'd never guess that such a man, married to such a good Christian woman, would have such dark secrets. Imagine an FBI profiler, a clean cut, smart dressed, African-American who displays the traits of a natural-born leader. Even knowing he was born in Kenya and came to the US as a child, you probably wouldn't expect him to be a shaman. If you accept that there is such as thing as evil incarnate, and that some people do have extraordinary capabilities that enable "site" with all their senses, then you will most certainly enjoy this work by Jay Bonansinga. |
