This review is from: Shattered: In the Eye of the Storm (Hardcover)
The title of my review says it all. Resnick is obviously a very strong woman to bite her lip and tell the heartbreaking stories behind her best friend Nicole's marriage/death, as well as the justice sytem's betrayal of American trust with it's handling of OJ. She not only describes it all in great specific detail, but shows the emotion' and feelings she had toward it all, making us feel as if we were right there with her through all of it; that is where the strength of 'Shattered' (and of 'Shattered's' ability to so well expose the untruths and injustices of the whole Nicole/OJ mess) truly lies. I do wish one thing, though-that she could have written more about Ron Goldman and his involvement in all of it because I never have been able to find out much about him. Great book, Ms Resnick!

Nothing but the cold, bitter and brutal truth.,

The truth about how the "Dream Team" was able to buy justice via their questionable-indeed, deplorable- tactics. I admire Ms. Resnick a lot because of her courage and willingness to tell the truth about what went on in and behind "The Trial Of The Century". A must-read.

This book gives an overall view of what truely happened from the time Nicole and Ron's tragic death occured to the time O.J.'s ridiculous first trial took place. I admire Faye Resnicks courage and strength for standing up for her beautiful friend and for what she believes in. Nicole was a colorful person full of life and love, and here Faye shows reality and honesty in the aftermath of Nicole's death. Many people took advantage of this awful crime to benefit professionally or financially, and here Faye tells it like it is.

For the O. J. Simpson murder case "Shattered" is like "Outrage," "Evidence Dismissed,""Murder in Brentwood," and some books I have not read. These are side dishes for readers with big bellies, wanting more than the main course, which is best served in two other books: "The Run of His Life" (for the criminal trial) and "Triumph of Justice" (for the civil trial).Though Faye Resnick, "Shattered's" author, played only a supporting role in the real-life drama, she became a heroine. She was steady companion and best friend of the female victim, Nicole Brown, formerly Nicole Simpson, wife of the Hall of Fame football player and celebrity. After her friend was savagely slain, Faye's life was shattered. She knew that Simpson had been a woman-abuser. She knew that Simpson had threatened to kill Nicole before he did kill her. And she knew that the rich and powerful Simpson knew that she knew. So she became fearful of ending up like Nicole. This small book is a quick read: title pages, blank pages, wide spaces--common tactics that publishers use to increase a book's thickness. Even so, for someone familiar with the Simpson murder case, the book includes redundant material. I give it four stars, but no fewer than four because the redundant material is not redundant to everyone and some of the material is fresh. Months after the killings (Nicole's friend Ron Goldman was also slain), Simpson's criminal trial began. Simultaneously, Miss Resnick's first book, "Nicole Brown Simpson The Private Diary of a Life Interrupted," was published. It became a #1 bestseller, causing a sensation and a furor. The horde of O. J. Simpson fans refused to believe their icon was the creep that Faye described. Nor did she have many friends in the media, which accused her of prostituting her friendship with Nicole by cashing in on sleazy revelations of Nicole's privacy. Her book signings had to be beefed up with security guards, as did her own person. On the stage of Maury Povich's talk show in New York City, Faye cringed in the spotlight as the audience orally attacked her. Fortunately Nicoles's diary was discovered in a safety deposit box. It corroborated Faye's words. Then the public became more believing and friendly (but not entirely). "Shattered" does not have any photos. We do get copies of a few of the thousands of letters thanking Faye for her book about Nicole and for her crusade against domestic violence. And we get step-by-step guides for victims of domestic violence. Those might save your life. |
