I like alternate history, and this one ranks as one of the finest. It's not a novel, with character development and love interests and such; it is rather a well researched what-if that I found compelling and difficult to stop reading.

Written as a scenario with a few character vignettes. Well grounded on existing history. The point of departure is a Stalin who didn't purge the Army in 1938 but invaded Poland and the Baltics. Hilarity ensues. Needs copy editing. The use of "straight" for "strait" started irritating me after the third or fourth time. Well worth 99 cents though.

The series of alternate histories by Mr. Hardenbrook are well documented, well researched and extraordinary works. The technical and historical aspects keep the "techno thriller" reader thoroughly engaged without resorting to wasting time on character development, extraneous love stories, or "fluff." These are classics in the genre - I only wish they were in trade publication printing - I find the KINDLE takes getting used to.

Written almost as an outline for a real book. Once you get past outline format, the book itself is entertaining in a "what if?" fashion. An author like Turtledove could take this outline and create a fantastic alternative history novel with it.
