There is so much really bad media available these days (yes you can get T.J. Hooker on DVD), it's hard to believe that SOMEONE hasn't remastered and released Shaun Cassidy's original albums on CD. No, it wasn't great stuff, but there was always a track or two or four, that were first-rate pop.

In a world where The Brady Bunch CDs are available, how can it be...

If you remember lava lamps, disco bars, bellbottoms, or even the hottest movies like "Star Wars" playing in theatres, then you must remember Shaun Cassidy! One of the hottest and busiest superstars of that seventies decade! I've got all of his records. The first track on this CD is a cover of the Crystals golden oldie "Da Doo Ron Ron", a song which he originally sang on an episode of his T.V. series "The Hardy Boys Mysteries", playing Joe Hardy with his rock n' roll band at the local disco. It became a real hit for him and reached to number 1! Other songs I like on here are "Break For the Street","Hard Love",and a Beach Boys flavoured tune "Teen Dream", all of which he originally wrote. His cover songs I like are "Hey Deanie" and "That's Rock N' Roll", both cover songs by Eric Carmen. I also like "Cool Fire" and "Once Bitten Twice Shy", both of those songs were from his last solo release in which he tried to change his image into a harder kind of rocker and he also hired Todd Rundren to produce and play on his album along with his other band "Utopia", but his pop moment already passed. He mostly pursued an acting career and appeared in T.V. shows and on and off Broadway theatre productions. His T.V. work include starring in the short lived "Breaking Away"(1980-81) and a stint on the soap "General Hospital"(1987). His T.V. movies include "Like Normal People"(1979),"Once Upon A Texas Train"(1987),and "Roots: The Gift"(1988). His guest starring roles include "Matlock"(2-parts),"Murder She Wrote" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." His on and off numerous Broadway shows include "Mass Appeal","Pass/Fail","Diary of a Hunger Strike","Bus Stop"(with model/actress Jerry Hall), etc. Even though he no longer records solo albums he did star with Petula Clark and his older half brother David in the Broadway tour of "Blood Brothers", in which a soundtrack album was released as well. He then went on to producing and creating T.V. shows such as "American Gothic" and "Roar." Listen to the CD, and remember his years of fame and fortune of his music that was around the same era of other teen rock idols like John Travolta, Andy Gibb, Leif Garrett, Bay City Rollers, and Rex Smith.

Although I've just ordered this CD, I've can't wait to hear the songs I loved as a teen!I'm know that I will enjoy this as I have always been a big fan of Shaun Cassidy.I still remember the thrill of seeing him in concert when I was 13! Wouldn't it be great if they would re-release ALL of his first albums on CDs?I'd love to be able to replace the old LPs that I had as a teenager!

In a world where The Brady Bunch CDs are available, how can it be that Shaun Cassidy's are not?

This collection contains all his hits (all 4 of them) and a few decent album tracks but it's missing a lot of good material.

I grew up with 2 older sisters, and Shaun Cassidy is one of the first people I remember listening to, mainly, "Da Doo Ron Ron", "Teen Dream" and "Do You Believe In Magic". So his music has always had a very, very special place in my heart. It reminds me of being a kid and being carefree. I was born the year "Da Doo Ron Ron" came out, but I grew up on his albums anyway. Though this album is very short, it has all the main hits on it, it still is a great listen although some of the lesser known songs such as "Walk Away", "Carolina's Comin' Home" and "Taxi Dancer", to name a very few, would have been nice to have on cd, since NOTHING else of his has been released on cd, I wish they would remaster and reissue all of Shaun's albums because I have had to keep replacing my Shaun records, which in my opinion the best two are SHAUN CASSIDY and BORN LATE (though UNDER WRAPS is a very close 3rd), because they keep getting worn out! But until that happens, this collection (even though it's bare-bones essentials) is the next best thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remember when??!!, March 19, 2005
This review is from: Shaun Cassidy Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
OMG I saw this CD & had to own it... I can remember being 13 yrs old in the summer of 1976 & Shaun Cassidy posters were plastered on my bedroom walls ceiling too!!!!!!! This was the best time growing up listening to Shaun's debut album along with the next two that I was given as gifts over the course of the beginning of my teenage years. Just listening to this CD has given me goosebumps all over again. Way to Go Shaun you still rock!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars YEAH!!!!!, November 19, 2003
This review is from: Shaun Cassidy Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I adored Shaun Cassidy from the time I was five years old! The first concert I ever went to was Shaun's and I slept in my Shaun Cassidy night shirt until it fell apart! I had every album he ever made! I am so excited to see this on CD since I no longer have a record player!
Unfortunately the sound quality is low but it still makes me deliriously happy to listen to it!
No matter how much my boyfriend and my mom make fun of me for buying this, I am thrilled to have it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Attention: Shaun Cassidy Fans, June 21, 1998
By A Customer

The cream of the crop for the singer-actor-teen idol who scored a few big hits in a short period, including the #1, "Da Doo Ron Ron." Eric Carmen fans will get a kick out of Cassidy's takes on "Hey Deanie" and "That's Rock 'n' Roll." Great sound, and since it's tough to find these songs anywhere else ("Da Doo Ron Ron" is particularly elusive), get this CD while you can!

2.0 out of 5 stars That's not rock and roll anymore..., September 17, 2006

Let me start off by saying that I was a Shaun Cassidy fan when I was about 10, partly because I could sing his stuff back then and people thought I sounded like him. I'll also admit that I didn't expect much when I bought this 14-year-old CD from Virgin Records for $5, and that I was buying it primarily because nothing else of his is on CD, and my LPs of his albums are buried in my garage.

I definitely got my money's worth. Since $5 is about 25 percent of what the average CD costs these days, I should be happy if I liked one-fourth of the songs. Shaun scores here: his only real hits -- "Da Doo Ron Ron," "That's Rock and Roll," and "Hey Deanie" -- are on the disc, minus the crackle and pops from my old records. Yay. (Although I have to note that the sound quality on this disc is clean, but so-so: turn your volume up a notch higher than you normally would as you listen to this.)

It's the rest of the disc that I'm bummed about. The other nine cuts aren't truly "Greatest Hits," but mostly songs Shaun selected for the album because they were personal favorites. Yeah, I can agree with the Brian Wilson-penned "It's Like Heaven." Somewhere I have a tape of me singing this number in a talent show when I was about 11 or 12, before my voice changed. And his remake of The Lovin' Spoonful's "Do You Believe in Magic" -- his last Top 40 hit in the U.S. -- and "Teen Dream" (from "Born Late") and "Hard Love" (from the underrated "Under Wraps") are decent numbers that fit the pop flavor of the later 1970s. Yeah, this stuff's all cool.

The let-down is with the second half of the disc, particularly the final four songs. These come from Shaun's final two albums -- "Room Service" in 1979, and "Wasp" from 1980 -- which were commercial disasters. I don't own either of these albums (thank God!), and if these songs are any indication of what each album held, my ears are lucky indeed.

Absolute bottom of the barrel: the final cut, Shaun's horrendous remake of "Once Bitten, Twice Shy," which bears absolutely no resemblance to the versions most of the world knows (Ian Hunter and Great White, you can rest easy). Thank Todd Rundgren for that -- he reworked this song (and the others on "Wasp") in an effort to give Shaun a tougher sound heading out of the disco era. But Shaun Cassidy is forever a bubble gum pop icon, and heavier, acid rock-like music just doesn't stick.

If you catch this album in the bargain bin and remember to program only the first 6 or 7 tracks in your player, you'll have a bouncy trip down memory lane. Otherwise, wait for the inevitable release of his debut and "Born Late" on a combined CD.

This is probably the best $5.98 I have yet spent with Amazon.A great compilation CD from a young man who never quite made it over here in the UK with his music but is now much respected over here for his TV work.

Just a great shame that the lovely song "Midnight Sun" from his "Under Wraps" album was not included, and neither was "Heaven In Your Eyes" but there is plenty of material left over for a second or third volume I am sure.

A very entertaining CD
