Why did they change Bitzer and the Farmer????,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Shaun the Sheep: Party Animals (DVD)
Oh, No!!! They changed the look of the Farmer and Bitzer!!! This was very distractive and disappointing, if you've seen all the first episodes...They also have tons of background sound effects and noises (like blowing raspberries) that overwhelm the previous quietness of the previous episodes. Sometimes there's value in quietness; it puntuates something to come. Way overfilled with "fluff" noises.... While I understand the need to change the mouths of both the Farmer and Bitzer for quicker transitions for shots, it's just not as high quality as the first episodes. Plus, they completely changed Bitzer's look: extended lighter belly fur up to his new mouthline, and added a fox-like tail....argh!!! It's not the Bitzer we've all come to know and love. Why did Nick Park, et al., change a fantastic formula that worked so brilliantly well? Please, people, and fans of Nick Park, email the brilliant man and tell him while we understand the business decision behind it, to go back to the original characters!!!

Do Not Like New Animation,
By Ana Leigh (Plano TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shaun the Sheep: Party Animals (DVD)
I do not like the new animation. It has caused the series to lose much of its charm. It now looks slick, harsh, computer-generated. The characters are not the same. I was very disappointed!

Episodes great, character changes not so much.,

The stories are truly funny and sharp. But now the farmer looks a lot like Homer Simpson (beard shadow) and the cat looks like an orange bear with fangs. Despite the changes, I really enjoyed Party Animals. Definitely worth seeing.

Right after I purchased a copy of this DVD, Lyons & Hit Entertainment released the complete Season 1 series on 2 DVDs. It has destroyed any reason to continue buying individual DVDs of this series: wait a year-and-a-half or so and then buy the entire season for a third of the cost of the individual discs. I just wish they had come out with the Season 1 collection before I spent money on this disc.Nothing wrong with the season 2 episodes -- just the marketing strategy.

I bought this as a gift, but I have seen a few of his shows. How can you go wrong with claymation & sheep!

Great stuff here . . .,
By Jason K. Taylor (Prairie City, IA United States) - See all my reviews

The new animation bothered me on the first viewing, and I still wish they'd go back to the old style, but the writing here is sharper than ever and extremely funny. It's already the favorite out of all 7 Shaun DVD's for my three year old, and I enjoy it more with each viewing. The pace of gags has picked up, but not at a loss of character or laughs. I can put up with the new looks of The Farmer, Pidsley (an improvement in my opinion, Season 1 Pidsley looked nothing like a cat), and Bitzer if the writing stays this sharp. The birthday party is one of the best episodes ever.

I enjoyed this DVD installment much more than the last one, even though I don't really care much for the change they made to Bitzer (new season?). But I did enjoy the addition of the cat (Pidsley?) And the Doctor Who (Dalek) gag in the birthday party episode was just classic (can't...climb..stairs)! Sure, most kids won"t get it, but that's part of the appeal about this series -- the whole family will enjoy it. My only gripe is that these DVD installments aren't long enough.

Shaun has become americanized,

This review is from: Shaun the Sheep: Party Animals (DVD)
We were so excited to get the newest Shaun but were shocked when we started watching it. The animation has changed, Bitzer now has fur, Shaun's hair poof is different, the farmer always has that beard shadow..But it has also become unnecessarily noisy. There's sounds and noise added in for everything, its no longer the great animation that did not need a whole lot to supplement it. However as far as it goes for the stories, they were amusing, but again the extra noises from characters (grunts and what not) were distracting. Not that impressed, hopefully the next one will be better.

Shaun became malicious jerk! This is SO not funny.,

We have loved all of the past Shaun the Sheep DVDs. On all of the past disks, Shaun is funny, and works with the other sheep and Bitzer to fool the farmer in hilarious ways. On this disk, Shaun is malicious and not at all funny. There is a nasty cat as well who makes it even worse. I was severely disappointed, and my nine-year-old was furious. Aardman has made a serious mistake in the direction of their show.

Ewww, what did they do to Shaun!?!?,
This review is from: Shaun the Sheep: Party Animals (DVD)
What a huge disappointment these episodes are! I went to the official Shaun the Sheep website to see if there was any explanation for the changes to the look of the characters, and Aardman people explained on the forum that they did it to save time, blah blah blah.Personally, I don't like the new look at all. I could overlook the changes to the characters IF any of the episodes were at all funny, but I didn't laugh ONCE while watching this. Other reviewers said it was noisy, and yes, I have to agree. There was a new "dark" side to these episodes that I didn't like, and all the cuteness and charm that I fell in love with is completely gone. And I have to say, sadly, that I was BORED, and since I was so disappointed with the changes, I didn't even want to finish watching all the episodes. I loved the 1st season because all the episodes were so clever, and the humor was brilliant. These episodes are not even close to what they've done in the past, and I can't help wondering if they lost all their brilliant writers and animators. The only thing "brilliant" about it now is that they're filming it in HD and the colors are brighter... I'll just have to make due with the 1st season. *sigh* I just can't believe that they could ruin Shaun so badly!!! He WAS so cute and funny, but now...I'm not even interested. |
