4.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this if you don't have internet-connection (but if you don't you're probably not reading this anyway...)
At first I was disappointed by this game. The graphics were just a blurry white mess. You could barely tell there was a snowboarder there, and the landscape was just weird. Then I hooked my computer up to the internet and the game automatically downloaded the necessary patches needed to fix the graphics, and now it's just smooth sailin'. Great snowboard game.

1.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like it
I have been looking for a good snowboard game for PC for years. I thought this would be it. It's not. I have given it about 5 hours total play so far. The controls are really difficult. Just steering is awkward let alone air control. Press forward to speed up, but you cant press forward when you jump or it will flip. The grabs are pretty easy using the right stick...

I have been looking for a good snowboard game for PC for years. I thought this would be it. It's not. I have given it about 5 hours total play so far. The controls are really difficult. Just steering is awkward let alone air control. Press forward to speed up, but you cant press forward when you jump or it will flip. The grabs are pretty easy using the right stick on my Logitech Rumblepad. Spinning is really inconsistent. Sometimes it spins, sometimes it doesnt. The game is not very clear on the parameters necessary for certain moves. I also had to fix the in game updater so the game would run. I dont see how a patch would fix the handling. The graphics are good and they give a good sense of height and depth. The controls are really frustrating. Its a game, it should not be frustrating. I am afraid this one was a waste of money. I haven't felt this much remorse in years of gaming. -Frustrated.

1.0 out of 5 stars not compatible with vista 64-bit **UPDATE - SOLUTION FOUND**, April 16, 2009

(see update further down) My old PC and graphics card could barely handle this game at all, so I built a new PC - i7-920, GTX285 SSC, 6GB RAM and Windows Vista home premium 64-bit. This is the first game I installed, and I find it IS NOT COMPATIBLE with vista 64-bit. I'm not happy.

Googled and found lots of angry people with the same problem, but no solutions. I've tried disabling visual themes, and tried running under XP compatibility mode (my old PC ran the game on XPpro, albeit badly).. The game installs and patches itself fine, but crashes straight after going into full screen on game start. Disabling full screen does not help.

Apparently Ubisoft couldn't care less. Such a big let-down. What a waste of money and time.

*** UPDATE *** UPDATE *** UPDATE ****

I posted that I have never been able to get this game to work on 64-bit Vista, even in XP compatibility mode. Finally, after many fruitless searches and help requests to Ubisoft, someone posted on a forum I use and suggested I try turning off HT (hyper-threading) in the BIOS. It worked!!!! Means I run on 4 cores instead of 8, and so I have to reboot and switch HT back on after, but at least there is a solution!!!

Having used that solution, I found the game awesome. With two GTX 285 SSC's running in SLI and an i7-920 clocked to 3.8GHz, the graphics are clean, crisp and smooth. Controls take some getting used to, and I strongly recommend a gamepad for this game, but by all means, buy it and shred.. great fun!

Gave 5 stars for fun, and 4 for overall since Ubisoft were so clueless about this problem, and it took around a year to resolve so I could play this game.

I played Shaun White snowboarding for the xbox 360 and had a blast. I bought it for my PC and it doesn't even work. There are no plans in the future for a patch to this game according to Ubisoft who I spoke with on the phone.

My PC easily met the minimum requirements of the game and should play this easily.

One website even stated "I want my 30 back UBI, this is a horrible piece of gaming and a waste of my time and money."

I suggest that you but the xbox 360 version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, But Gets Monotonous, July 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This game is short-term fun. It gets monotonous after a while, because there are only four (i think) mountains to play on. Each mountain is "open world" style, so you can go down it a little differently each time, but after so many times it gets boring. To get money (which you need to buy better boards and cooler outfits) you have to complete challenges, like races, timed runs, and obstacle runs. To accumulate a high score, do as many tricks as you can without wiping out. I've never been snowboarding in real life, so it's fun to learn the names of the different moves and stuff. On PC, its way more fun and easier to play if you have a joystick.

We purchased this game for $2 shipped from another electronics e-tailer and my son and I both love it. When we installed it, the game installed a patch, which, I'm assuming, has taken care of the issues the other reviewers are experiencing. Though it has crashed a couple times, the game play is smooth and the graphics are great, even with my (relatively) old system.

The only issue I have with the game is the fact that it's set up to be used with an Xbox 360 controller, though you can use the keyboard. After a couple hours of play, I figured out how to do tricks, jump, etc.

My favorite part of the game is the freedom of going where ever you like(to a degree); I'd liken it to MS Flight Sim. A lot of the challenges are pretty hard, but that's just more motivation to play and get better.

There are only 4 locations (mountains), so I'd like to see a patch created with more destinations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Game, September 4, 2009
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Shaun White (DVD-ROM)
I had first played this game on an Xbox 360 and loved. The computer version is just as good after you have played for a while. (I found the controls challenging at first) The graphics in the game are phenomenal and the game play was interesting and fun. The thing that I really love this is the scene of freedom. In ALL other games you have to go down preset runs but in this game you really have an infinite number of runs. The terrain is actually about the same as the real resort and there is so much of it. It actually takes me about about 30 minutes to get down from the top of Park city at top speed. Overall an Awesome game. Would recommend to anyone.

Im on the fence with this review. I dont want to come off sounding negative because computers vary so differently on how they handle programs and games. When I first bought this game I installed it and played it for about 10 minutes and it went right back in the box cause it was so unplayable. Washed out graphics and poor performance. Then the lack of people playing online was the other reason I put it away. Afterall I did want a neat snowboarding game that was online capable. Back then when I bought this game my system just met the requirements. Which now brings me to today, after many years of sitting on the shelf and a beast of a computer I decided to reinstall it and patch it up. Works like a charm! Of course technology has come a long ways and many people now days far exceed this games requirements and with the patch it will run like butter. It runs flawless and smooth on my newer computer but I still just cannot get into this game. My main gripe, the controls are horrible. To many clicks and button mashing to actually enjoy it. Dont get me wrong the graphics and performance after I patched it and running the game on my new system made it look nice but I just cannot get a feel for the controls. And thats not to mention the online servers are always completely empty! So my conclusion, if you got the power to run this game and dont mind pressing tons of buttons it will be fun. Just dont expect to be playing it online with tons of people unless you know others who actually own it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all costs (PC version), February 1, 2010

By buying this game, you are essentially gambling with your money, as the chances of the game working properly are not very good. I have tried this game on several computers, each with very different specs and operating systems, and none of them will play the game. I have tried the official 'patch' as well as every unofficial fix I've managed to find, none of them work, or they only fix one of many problems. I have yet to actually do any snowboarding in this game. Ubisoft is about as useful as a stubbed toe, I can't find any information on how to contact them for help, and the game has been out for over a year without any sort of fix. Just avoid the hassle and risk, do not waste your time or money and stay far away from this game.
