Editorial Reviews

The word "punk" is thrown around a lot these days and unfortunately, it's been misrepresented in every way, shape, and form. Then there's California's Guttermouth, the true definition of punk rock: loud, fast, and truly offensive. This is their tenth album. Their infamous tongue-in-cheek humor and hyper songs remain poignant to the times today; lambasting the politicians, the scenesters, and even their own audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars the defintion of punk rock, January 20, 2009
This review is from: Shave the Planet (Audio CD)
i guess maybe i'm getting old and crotchety like most typical 30 year olds who remember how cool things used to be. and i constantly compare things to the past and complain. but with guttermouth, i have no complaints. they are just as good as ever. each of their albums has a different feel to it, but they all(with the exception of gusto) have great lyrics, backed by good old punk rock riffs. they sound a bit poppy at times on their lastest albums, but mark adkins still writes like he did. he still has the same distaste for society that i have and doesn't hesitate to let people know how he feels about them. anyway, do yourself a favor and go burn your fall out girl and my chemical imbalance cd's, wash off your guyliner(more like gay-liner), cut off that stupid flock of seagulls emo-fag hair, and go buy all of guttermouth's albums in attempt to redeem yourself for listening to garbage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guttemouth sounding... GOOD after all these years?, October 8, 2009

So, Guttermouth ditched Ty, the greatest drummer ever, and picked up some new guy. But Clint is back for this CD: woohoo! I was pretty skeptical, especially after Gusto, and Covered with Ants wasn't much better. They did one other CD too... Eat your Face... that one wasn't very good, either. The title track isn't much, and there are some songs that you won't get 15 seconds into before skipping, buuuuuuuuuut I just about crapped my pants laughing when listening to My Chemical Imbalance. There's a spin-off on an old punk classic about a Pepsi, I can't say more or I'll spoil it, but seriously, I laughed for like 10 minutes straight. And honestly, I think The 23 things that Rhyme with Darby Crash is my all time favorite Guttermouth song: loud, fast, obnoxious, and a killer punk solo that really sounds punk like back in the 80's psycho offkey shredder impersonation, you old guys know what I'm talking about; that new guitarist is pretty darn good and he really sounds punk when he does his solos, too. So, I'd say pick this one up -- you'll at least find 3 tracks that are excellent, and by excellent I mean excellent. The rest are pretty much filler tracks, but I like some of the songs. Better yet, download the good tracks and don't buy the whole album. All in all, I'm giving this album 5 stars because... because Guttermouth is old and there are no better CD's coming out? Nah, it's pretty good, just as good as their first couple of albums, but with good recording quality.

loves it. so into this album. i guess these guys are kinda washed up and no one really cares anymore but i'm a new fan with this album. i heard their singles before and thought they were just another melodic pop-punk band that didn't know how to be melodic but i've finally realised that they're more about vocals and lyrics than music. i understand the fan consensus is that Musical Monkey is this band's best/definitive album, and i listened to it, but i don't think it's as funny as this one. the character voices and pop/punk-culture references and general middle finger in the air attitude is more potent on this record.
