4.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book even if a bit small to do justice to many of the images
This is a very beautiful book with some really nice, high quality images contained within. The size is a little disappointing, many of the really good images would be served so much better by a larger format. I'm not sure if I really like the title. 2.0 out of 5 stars Probably not worth it
Size of this book is too small for fine photography. Compounding the problem, many of the pictures were shot in very low resolution settings.

This is a very beautiful book with some really nice, high quality images contained within. The size is a little disappointing, many of the really good images would be served so much better by a larger format. I'm not sure if I really like the title. It seems to reflect our whacko obsession with vaginas and the cosmetic treatment of. It may have been better served if it had been called `Focus on the [..]a beautiful part of womanhood'. Traditionally a lot of great (especially mainstream) images have not been all they could have been because of our Victorian era attitudes and keeping vaginas hidden from view when at times it would have been much more appropriate than models hands awkwardly places or props placed neatly in the frame to clutter the image.

This book has gone the other way and shows vaginas in images that may have been more naturally less `in ya face'. Still, it is a most beautiful and sacred part of a woman's sexuality so let's celebrate it and aim towards the balance between hiding it and looking for gratuitous ways of seeming to be `perving' on it (though for the half of us who don't have one of our own to study, learn and play with it's always a temptation). I enjoy this book and it has many quality images in it. Maybe this book's greatest value comes from it being representative of many photographer's work and style so anyone flicking through this can get a quick feel for people's work to decide who's work they'd like to pursue.

4.0 out of 5 stars ...the most exciting photographic book yet..., January 4, 2008
This review is from: Shaven or Unshaven (Hardcover)
...this is quite a fascinating book whose focus as others have said is the 'delta of venus' i.e. the female vulva, in its shaven/unshaven state. It features the work of about 35 erotic photographers who while mostly are male, it is refreshing to see female photographers taking part...as far as the pictures are concerned you get to see all sorts of vulvic hair styles, or lack of hair thereof in all sorts of poses, lighting, colors, close-ups imaginable. These vulvas will capture your interest... you will see all types of vaginal lips / labia, pierced and unpierced clitorises,...all venerating and showing the beauty of the female external genitalia in its artistic amazing glory...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Labia Lover's Delight - and Much More!, December 30, 2009
This review is from: Shaven or Unshaven (Hardcover)
Unlike what the title of this book might suggest, this is not a book entirely populated with images of female genitalia. It's actually much more than that - Shaven or Unshaven is a superb collection of 400+ erotic nudes from over thirty-five different photographers, including such luminaries as Björn Oldsen, Manuel Laval, Richard Murrian, Philippe Baud, Manfred Baumann, Didier Carré, Jiri Hampl, Kati Rudlova, Joris Van Daele, and many others.

There are color and black & white images, and yes, there are shots of unshaven, hirsute labias as well as those that have been razored clean and smooth. There are many close-ups and genital photo-studies but there are also lots of classic, artsy glamour shots that showcase the subject's sex organs only as a secondary element. But rest assured Labia Lovers - there's lots to love here and you will not be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars really nice, August 13, 2007

I enjoyed this book alot more than I thought I would.I do think that the title is somewhat misleading, the book doesnt really debate the topic, many of the photographers have pictures with totaly shaven and totaly unshaven models in their sections. As for the person who wrote the first review, granted the percentage of shaven models might be higher but I counted over 75 pictures of natural "pubic regions" , if you are that picky(which I am not, anything is fine with me) then go back in time to 1975. As for everyone else if you enjoy the most female part of a womans body or if you like erotic art then this is a good book to buy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Biased approach..., August 17, 2009

Although I have been a collector of erotic photography for 8+ years, I have always been a true fan of the 'au natural' women. This book is a dissatisfaction, disservice, and disinterest to those attracted to the "naturally luxuriant growth" (M. Sigrist, ed.). 80% of the photographs found therein are of the shaven delta of venus. But, of course, the rest of the book is very artistic and in good taste. Excellent angles and compositions.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful parlour game, July 25, 2007
This review is from: Shaven or Unshaven (Hardcover)
This book contains one of the most entertaining games I have played in some time. It's marvellous for breaking the ice at parties. The game works like this:

You get a picture of a scantily clad young lady and everybody has to guess whether she is 'shaven or unshaven'. Turn the page over and gone are the underclothes. Who was right and who was wrong? The game works at its best when you incorporate some of the suggested 'naughty forfeits' for those who are incorrect. Cracking stuff! It's high time they turned this into an interactive DVD game.

this book is great, it is a fine commentary on the dichotomy of our society . sex is bad and dirty, and it is even dirtier if hair is involved! but the best part about this book; you don't have to be able to read or speak English to enjoy it! and lets face it folks if you have read any of these other reviews you will see how excite it is for wonder book to be for to easy to understand! so even those of you with broken English...i think it is beyond repair for some of us, will enjoy the naughty bits in this book.
