From School Library Journal
Grade 5-8-Clearly admiring the youthful creativity that made Fanning a successful business owner by age 19, the author also emphasizes the teen's single-mindedness: he spent long hours writing code, subsisted on pizza and cereal, and dropped out of college during his freshman year to devote all of his time to his programming project. While the advent of Napster was a revolutionary new use of the Web, enabling Internet users to exchange music MP3 files online, it also led to a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing when the music industry sued Napster for copyright violations. With the post-lawsuit version of Napster now in beta testing and soon to be released to the general public, this is a timely volume if not a visually appealing one. The few, small black-and-white photos do nothing to enhance the text. Nevertheless, this book will appeal to young techies, music fans, and students in search of information on business successes or copyright violation cases.
