5.0 out of 5 stars This music has stayed with me since I first heard it in 1974, June 10, 2002

This review is from: Shawn (Audio CD)
I first bought this album on vinyl in its re-released version entitled, "First Impressions" and it quickly became one of my most favorite posessions. At some point along the way I misplaced this precious piece of art but have never forgotten it. A musician myself, I have often performed many of the songs that I first learned from Shawn on this recording. It is not just the wonderful selection of songs that is so memorable, but Shawn's beautiful and emotional interpretations of them, his incredible guitar playing and the unique sound of his voice. A folksinger's voice, yes, but with a quality that, at the risk of sounding cliche, I can only describe as "otherworldly". For some reason after all these years, that sound came to mind again today as I found myself singing "The Bells of Rhymney" and realised I very much needed to replace this long lost jewel. Anyone with an appreciation for lovingly interpreted and well crafted folk music will probably be playing this recording many times over and as I did, will find it becoming a musical experience not easily forgotten.
