Author Carla Ladd did an exceptional job by capturing the old wives tales, golden oldies, and words of wisdom that only a Grandmother could give. Carla made this book personal by including a snapshot into the life of her own grandmother accompanied by actual photographs. As Carla pays homeage to grandmothers all over the world, she reminds readers that "there is nothing new under the sun" and wisdom is timeless. This book is multi-generational and a must have for every household. I found myself reading this hearfelt book with a smile.

I really enjoyed this quick read that boasts old wives tales, and words of wisdom. But first let me clarify. I personally think that there is nothing "old" about wives tales! Generation after generation these "tales" come back around and as we grow older and wiser we see the truth in some and pass them on to our children and grandchildren. Author Carla Ladd has made it easy for us to do just that! "If She Can Beat Me Rockin' She Can Have My Chair!" gives the reader a snapshot into the author's own personal relationship with her grandmother Goldie, as well as she shares her grandmother's wisdom and words of advice.

Relayed in a somewhat witticism way, I found myself smiling as I remembered some of the phrases and storing away others I read for the first time. Nice presentation and I especially loved the sections "Granny on Money" and "Wise Counsel from Other Phenomenal Woman".
This is a book to hold on to and buy a few more copies as gifts, it will be appreciated!

With age comes wisdom regardless of your upbringing or background, and with that when you know better, you should do better. IF SHE CAN BEAT ME ROCKIN', SHE CAN HAVE MY CHAIR is a very entertaining read which contains all the old adages and familiar sayings that have been handed down through the years. Carla Ladd comprised several popular cliches her grandmother shared with her through the years. She didn't understand what her grandmother was talking about, but over time she did. Filled with colorful illustrations and family photos, the book was visually appealing as well as engaging. I was familiar with most of the quips Ladd included, although she did reveal some I never heard before.

One of my favorites is the title of the book, "if she can beat me rockin', she can have my chair", which means if another woman can please her man better than she can, the other woman can have him. In other words, there's no point in fighting over a man. There were a few sayings that were new to me such as "play with trash; it'll get in your eye" and "the fox is the finder, the fart lies behind her", which references manners and an unpleasant bodily function. Through the use of her grandmother's quotes, she offered advice on love, finances, friendships and behavior.

I devoured IF SHE CAN BEAT ME ROCKIN', SHE CAN HAVE MY CHAIR in a couple of hours. Ladd included scriptures, poems, and recipes, as well as the above mentioned photos and illustrations. The tone was heartwarming and humorous. The advice shared was very insightful and much needed today and would provide sound advice to hand down to future generations.

This book was really good. It was real, and food for thought that made me smile. When you value your heritage, why not share it with others. We all have stories or life lessons that others would be blessed by. Thanks for sharing your grandma with us all Carla. I can't wait to have my daughter read the book to see that there's nothing new under the sun; grandmothers are full of wisdom. Hopefully young and old women alike will take heed and spare themselves of unnecessary trials.

I had the opportunity to read this book as a casual observer as it was being written and as a personal friend and supporter of the author! Mrs. Ladd lives up to her Grandmother Goldie's wisdom and sage advice at ever turn in her life. She has begun I believe a revolution!

I know there have been countless times I wanted to give a younger lady some unrequested advice and didn't know how to do it tactfully (TACT IS NOT MY STYLE) Here is the perfect solution. I can deliver the goods and pray and run as she gets all the messages I've been trying to send her via telepathy, subtle hints and not so subtle "AHEMS". I personally like that its funny with no nonsense straightforward and tooth cutting truth!

I know there are some of us more "AHEM" seasoned women that can get a few hints on living a favored and blessed life without underestimating ourselves! LOVED it! Quick and Funny read too!

Mom's get for your daughters! Sisters, Friends, Aunts etc. Great solid mother wit which at 15 I wish my grandmother would leave me alone with, now I dream of her sayings! Thanks Carla for putting it in one neat little package! I never met Goldie but I think she and my grandmother are rocking on their chairs and smiling at your accomplishment in writing the 1st (I'm sure) of many editions of this timeless soon to be classic!
