Book Description

A passionate romantic-suspense of love, betrayal, and obsession, She Belongs to Me will have you falling in love and wondering if you can trust anyone right up to the last page.

Charlotte police officer Jordan Monroe is used to being in control. Ever since his father died, he has provided for his mother and sisters and even hired his two brothers-in-law to help run his successful construction company. On a chance business trip, however, he meets the one person who throws his life into a whirlwind--Jaynee.
Jaynee has lived a tragic life and has sworn off all men. That is until a rugged southern gentleman lands in her seating area, refusing to take no for an answer. From the moment they meet, Jordan sweeps her off her feet, assuring her that happiness exists. But can she really escape her past?
Five years later, Jordan finds Jaynee on their back porch with a gunshot wound to the head. While Jaynee lies in a coma, Jordan has to go back to their beginning and figure out what went wrong. Did he push his wife to the edge, or has her past come back to haunt them?
She Belongs to Me is book one of The Southern Suspense Series. From there, all the stories have a slight connection to each other, so you can continue the journey and meet different protagonists with different issues and tragedies to overcome. Every story has a mystery, there's always a gentle message, and above all, there's always romance and suspense.

From the Author

A romantic-suspense writer, my novels overflow with romance, mystery, suspense, and of course, tragedy. After all, what would a great story be without a tragic event setting the stage? My sensual and gripping mysteries have earned bestseller status on three continents because of their ability to make readers love, laugh, cry, gasp, and hope.
All of my novels are standalones; however, I do link each of my stories with a little surprise. If you read out of order, you'll never notice. But if you read in order, it's fun.
You can find my novels in print and eBook formats.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful love story! March 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After a rough start in life Jaynee has decided to put herself first and focus on herself and her education. She's not looking for love but when sexy and confident Jordan lands in her seating area one night at work there's no denying the instant chemistry between them. This story is filled with romance, anticipation and mystery. I really enjoyed the character development and the dialogue between everyone. Right from the beginning I felt like I could relate to Jaynee. The only thing I didn't like was the wedding planning. I don't want to spoil anything but I will just say I wish she had more involvement. I absolutely loved how the author gave us a look into their future. A lot of times I get to the end of a book and think, "but I want to know what happens next!" I'm a romance junkie and highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a wonderful love story. Five Stars all the way!

3.0 out of 5 stars A book which could have been a real thriller April 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Firstly, I need to say that the woman's face on the cover is one of the loveliest I have seen, epitomising everything about the heroine, who is a likeable character.

This romance novel could have been a real humdinger of a thriller but unfortunately, the author in my opinion, did not take advantage of the excellent plot which she set up. This is reflected in the title, as the plot shows all the characters wanting to own either Jaynee or material wealth. The story starts well with the meeting in the restaurant and the backstory work, however, I was disappointed from then on. In my opinion, Ms DeSousa tried to fit too much into the book; the plot covers far too long a time span which upsets the pace. I also feel the author was torn between writing a traditional light romance and a romantic mystery. This shows in the differing sections of the plot.

The couple meet, fall in love and marry within a few days, but during and after, the plot slows right down, from far too much description of shopping trips, what Jaynee buys and how they meet the family. I know meeting the family and having a second wedding is important to the romance side of the story and is the traditional romance section. That part was okay, but then the author skips across five years with very little information. There is some mention of hiking and other pursuits, but it's more of an "information watershed." This makes the ending (the mystery) rushed, though the twists and turns are good when the action finally picks up.

The two main characters are interesting. Janyee is typical of a romantic heroine in 2012 - damaged from a former relationship - and Jordan is traditionally handsome, but he comes across as a controlling and wildly jealous husband.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance, mystery and great characters! January 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jaynee ends up shot just outside her home, her loving husband finding her. As she lies in a coma, a distraught Jordan must untangle the threads of her recent days to find out why she shot herself. Or did she? For Jaynee wasn't the only one keeping secrets ... and one of those secrets is deadly. Can he find the truth before a killer strikes again?

I really enjoyed this book, and it's not explicit, so teenagers as well as those with delicate sensibilities will like it. You'll be swept off your feet along with Jaynee as she discovers the man of her dreams. You'll be drawn into the drama. And you'll flip the pages fast as Jordan must desperately figure out the truth in time. I was and did!

1.0 out of 5 stars not a love story November 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I am puzzled by reviews that called this a love story. The main characters are insecure, immature, and shallowly developed. As the title implies, Jordan "owns " his wife, and I found nothing redeeming or romantic in the way he loves her. Absent that, I was expecting some kind of message, lesson, or other relationship of interest; but the book delivered none of those things. Jaynee never seems to learn or grow. All threads of the story are tied up in trite, gaudy bows at the end.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tedious May 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I started 'She Belongs To Me' with high hopes. The premise was very interesting and the first few pages had me intrigued. Sadly, this did not last.
Up front, I must say that romantic mysteries do not appeal to me. I don't mind a little romance mixed into a mystery story, but when it is the central theme I don't care for it.

The book begins with a 'present day' incident and then unfolds by switching between current events and the previous five year span.
The story, which could have been a very good thriller, is sabotaged by an excruciatingly detailed account of the meeting and subsequent creepy 'insta-love' of the two title characters. This takes up the majority of the book and I found myself skimming large chunks of text to get past the character's irritating prattle and descriptions of their inner turmoil.
The male protagonist, Jordan, is simply not a likable character. He comes off as a controlling, not completely mentally balanced person. I found it very difficult to believe that Jaynee, the lead female character, would so easily trust and go along with Jordan's high handed plans seeing as how she had been involved in terribly dysfunctional relationships her whole life and was supposedly very wary of people, men in particular.
The fact that the author seems totally smitten with her hero is evident. He is written as somewhat of a demi-god of a person. He is, of course, handsome, well built, wealthy, and smart (in spite of being a 'country boy'...which is reiterated ad nauseam). His take-charge attitude is accepted and appreciated by everybody, it would seem, and there is nobody who can resist him. This made him instantly unlikable in my opinion.

It was a good suspense, however the romance was choppy and weird. Too over the top high school romance... was a disappointment aside from the suspense.

Don't be fooled. Lots of religion in this book, which is fine if you know and want that in your reading. I did not.
