5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Julie Hill on March 7, 2014
Format: Paperback
What a beautiful story about Ardis finding her identity and struggling with where she was from and where she was going. A story not uncommon to girls everywhere. Julia Helms and her preferred word choice takes the reader on a journey to Turkey that transports you in the setting itself. The smells, sights and sounds makes you wish you were there sharing every experience or at best looking forward to traveling there some time in your life. The event where Ardis is traveling in a car with a gentleman and how she handles an awkward situation still makes me laugh today!!
Thanks for the story!

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Gabriela Watts on September 9, 2012
Format: Kindle Edition
A girl's life adventure. From deep wounds to flying freedom towards a better window outside her "cave".
I loved Ardis and her thirst for books. The Gasoline lady was my favorite: packed with enough energy to reshape a whole village.
This story can be the story of any girl who's leaving her home town with the first stranger, trusting the people she encounters, ending up in a new country(Turkey) with a family that loves her just like one of their own.
Just like any other girl she must return and deal with her past, clean the shelves, chose the books that will forever be with her, leave some things behind, pack again and this time chose a destination on her own...or maybe helped again by destiny.
A must read!
