Book Description

Velvet December 31, 1995
A mother and her three daughters...sharing their inexhaustible sexual favours between the same young man, each other, and anyone else who enters their web of depravity. From a chance encounter on the stairway with a voluptuous young girl, the narrator is drawn to become the plaything of four rapacious females, experiencing them all in various combinations of increasingly wild debauchery, until they one day vanish as mysteriously as they had appeared.

Described by Susan Sontang as one of the few works of the erotic imagination to deserve true literary status, The She Devils remains Pierre Lous' most intense, claustrophobic work; a study of sexual obsession and monomania unsurpassed in its depictions of carnal excess, unbridled lust and limitless perversity.

5.0 out of 5 stars She-Devil's Advocate, December 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The She Devils [Old Edition] (Velvet) (Paperback)
While a few of the later chapters tended to drone at times and some of the mainstream ideals of feminine beauty have since changed somewhat, the bulk of the book is simply, for lack of a better word, astounding! I've come across few-if any-works that leaves one's heart racing in disgust, arousal, and incredulity at the same time. Written and set in an atmosphere(Paris in the early 1900's) where anything like what is said or done in the book was much more likely to have occured, Louys delves into debauchery and manias with an imagination(or recollection, who knows) that few can or are brave enough to match. Well translated, the images it evokes will shock and haunt you for a long time. Definately recommended for all but the young, the uptight, or the faint of heart! Enjoy...and brace yourself!

4.0 out of 5 stars A saucy fantasy, not real filth!, April 15, 2005
This review is from: The She Devils [Old Edition] (Velvet) (Paperback)
Another reviewer claims this book is vile filth. In fact, it's a saucy fantasy with some exquisite imagery and a lot of jolly inventive romps; closer to Benny Hill than to De Sade.

Any keen aficionado of erotica will enjoy the scene in which Mummy takes the narrator's dickie up her bum and her youngest daughter's slim hand enters her vaginally and provides exquisite pleasure to the lucky chap!

A dilgent search will yield an illustrated edition published in continental Europe some years ago. Oh, what delight and what a superb illustrator, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent little piece of erotica, February 26, 2002
By
Short but very sweet, The She-Devils is a deliciously evil little book. About a man renting a room across the hall from a woman and her daughters, who slowly (and easily?) seduce him and each other. First he encounters each of them on thier own, before finally succumbing to their whim in one big orgy of delight. The author has created some interesting characters, the youngest daughter in particular! Role models these girls ain't. After finishing the book, like the Master himself De Sade achieves, your left wondering wether all of the story was truly "fiction"
