Worth the price!, November 8, 2004
This review is from: She Don't Want Nobody Near (Audio CD)
I recieved this is the mail today, and I am astounded. My friends, who also like the Crows, told me the whole story about the song August and Everything After; the lyrics on the cover of their debut album and so forth. Anyway, I listened to it, and it is one of my favorite Counting Crows songs, if not, my favorite. It has great lyrics and is a very awesome ballad. It was interesting how in the beginning, Adam says he's played it only 3 times in his life. Now, for the other songs. I love the title track, and I also love Friend of the Devil, although it doesn't sound that original. It's still great, though. I also like the video. It's funny-the quality is GREAT for me! All other reviewers say it's bad. So, in conclusion,
She Don't Want Nobody Near: 9/10
The most unique Counting Crows song on this compilation, and is accompanied by Adam's lyrics as good as ever.
Friend of the Devil: 8.5/10
A great ballad, but compare this to the Across A Wire: Live album. The guitar sounds almost the same as Mr. Jones! It's still great though.
August and Everything After: 10/10
FANTASTIC. UTTERLY FANTASTIC.
OVERALL: 9/10 *****
A great addition to your music collection.

"August and Everything After", January 30, 2006
This review is from: She Don't Want Nobody Near (Audio CD)
What a truly amazing song... to have never released it seems rather criminal of Adam Duritz. Though perhaps he doesn't feel the gravity of this song in the way his fans seem to. Adam really just ought to sit down some lonely night and record it solo, as this song truly deserves to be let out of studio exile. In the most urgent sense.
This CD, if it can be found anywhere, is well worth owning for that one amazing song.
Now, one must add to the geeky muddle: "August and Everything After" has been sung in concert at least twice, as I myself have heard two different recordings of it from seperate concerts. Now I don't know how many recordings actually exist in total, but it's surely not so terribly few as others have claimed. My notion is that Adam has performed it perhaps a handful of times throughout the Crows' career. It is a long, difficult song to play, so it's infrequency does not surprise me.
The song is legendary... and rightfully so. The rest of the CD is good, too. However, the stars awarded here are for the astounding "August and Everything After." It truly outshines the other material on this release.

I am curious if this version of AAEA is without the people in the audience shouting making it hard to hear the song. I would love a copy of this album!! Where can i find it??
