2.0 out of 5 stars I gave up.
The male lead's name is Johnny Walker.

That in itself should've been a warning to put the book away, but as a reader who will read just about anything, I decided to give the book a chance b/c it was recommended to me by a dear friend. I'm also the type of reader to finish a book just to finish.

At three-quarters of the way through the book, I'm...

Emma Frasier returns home to Joyful, Georgia when her life falls apart. Her best friend embezzled her life savings along with a sizeable amount of the assets belonging to the company they had both worked for. Now that she's jobless she has returned home to house her grandmother left her to try and get her life back on track..With a strip club being built in the town by a former porn star, the local grapevine has been working overtime trying to figure out who the porn star is....and when Emma arrives home they quickly decide that it must be her. Emma doesn't understand why people keep looking at her strange or giving her smirking looks and the whole thing leaves her feeling uncomfortable. Then there is Johnny Walker, the former local bad boy who is now District Attorney. Emma had dated Johnny's brother Nick in high school only to find herself dumped on prom night when Nick disappeared to marry the sheriff's daughter who was pregnant with his child. When Johnny showed up in Nick's place to take Emma to the prom neither of them expected the night to end with them being caught naked together. Johnny has always felt like Emma used him in place of his brother but now that they are together again things quickly heat back up. Between dealing with her feelings for Johnny and a town who thinks she was a porn star Emma's got a lot to handle.

Leslie Kelly has delivered a feel good romance that has laugh out loud humor, sexy love scenes and touch of suspense. The tension between Emma and Johnny is obvious from the beginning and the secondary story of Claire and Tim is a delightful bonus. Add to this the tease of an upcoming story for Nick and She Drives Me Crazy is a not to be missed treat. She Drives Me Crazy was my first experience with Leslie Kelly but I was so throughly satisfied by it that I immediately ordered all her other titles and have added Leslie Kelly to my list of auto buy authors!

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy, good fun!, March 28, 2005

A seductive, lazy Southern setting combined with the reallistic modern love & life problems of todays women make this story. Don't get me wrong it's not a sappy story you see Valerie Burtonelli in. It's edgy and witty with plenty of steam generated by the main characters Emma Jean and Johnny.
Because of a misplaced assumption in the local gossip grapevine, everyone in Joyful, GA assumes Emma Jean is a porn star whose just returned to there town after a long absense. It doesn't hurt that she left after an embarrassing nudity incident with the local bad boy heart throb. Blissfully unaware of the rumors, Emma Jean only ends up feeding the flames of embarrassment through her own behavior, especially when she's around Johnny Walker. And every time Johnny sees her he just wants to grab her and bite her in unmentionable places.
Combined with several who done it mysteries, a cast of sparky secondary characters, and an interesting new idea on how to eat pie this book is a definite winner. Look for the next book in this series in September!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Sexy and Entertaining, March 5, 2005
I am a big fan of small town romances and this book is going right onto my favorites list. Emma Jean Frasier is a great heroine...flat broke and returning to a town she hates. Meanwhile, the town of Joyful is convinced Emma went off and became a big time porn star and is opening a strip club.

Johnny Walker is a wonderful hero. Sexy and strong, he really is driven crazy by Emma Jean, the girl he has never been able to forget. His revelation at the end was beautiful and left me smiling long after I finished the book.

The other characters in the town add a lot of laughs and quirkiness. I loved how the mayor got what was coming to him.
Emma's friend Claire, the grumpy old cleaning lady, the dirty old man who pines for the sex doll his dog popped...just all so funny and entertaining.

She Drives Me Crazy is a fun, funny, fast-paced read that is definitely worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious & Sexy Small Town Antics, March 6, 2005
It doesn't usually take much innuendo to get a rumor started in some places. Joyful, Georgia is no exception in Leslie Kelly's latest book SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY.

Emma Jean Frasier finds out the hard way just how fast gossip can spread as folks in her home town mistakenly assume she is not only the owner of the new strip club being built on the outskirts of town, but also a famous porn star bringing wickedness to Joyful.
After all, she was last seen ten years ago in a local park's gazebo on prom night in her birthday suit with bad boy, now local prosecutor, Johnny Walker.

From the first line in this story, I was hooked. Leslie Kelly creates a sea of funny and often heart warming characters I swear I've met and talked to while traveling through small towns.

SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY is as hilarious as I've come to look forward to in Leslie's books and has a nice twist I didn't expect at the end. The scene in chapter one at the local convenience store involving a sprained ankle and laundry detergent had me laughing until I cried. My personal favorite scene however, involves a window unit air-conditioner on an exceptionally hot day. Whew!!

Leslie Kelly simply rocks! And so does SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY. You're in for a treat when you read this.

SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY is going not only on my must read list, but also has a special place on my book shelf of favorites.

I can't wait for Nick's Walker's story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kelly's an author readers can count on!, March 18, 2005
Pecan pie, golden butterflies, and wild Walker men combined make for one heck of a sexy read. When Emma Jean Frasier returns to Joyful, Georgia, the entire universe begins to tilt on its axis for the citizens of the nosy little town. The dialogue in this book is so perfectly in sync with the way I envisioned each character, that I was sad to finish the book. I just didn't want to walk away from a couple as fun as this one. This book reads the way my girlfriends and I talk. It's brash and modern. Emma Jean is a woman we'd all like to have on our speed dial, and of course any woman would be lucky to have a carbon copy of Johnny Walker about. Nick's story hits shelves in September '05, and you can BET I'll be rushing to get my copy.

4.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, February 28, 2006

This is the first book that I've read from this author and by far it didn't disappoint. The book was so well written and comparable to author's Jennifer Crusie or Carly Phillips. The book flowed well and it really drew you into the characters. The book had some sensual parts along with a few spots that got me laughing out loud. I'll be picking up the next book of her's in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining!, June 8, 2005
This was a fun book, with "I Love Lucy" kind of slapstick humor, updated for current times with lots of sex. It read kind of slowly, with lots of crazy misunderstandings centered around the community mistaking Emma for a porn star without her realizing it, and twisting the meaning of everything she innocently said into something absurdly sexual. I think probably would have been even better (more interesting and easy to stick with) had it been a shorter book with some of this craziness editted out.

It took a while to get to the actual substance of the story and sort out all the issues between Emma, Johnny and the misuse of her grandma's pecan orchard. Both characters were very likeable, if only they communicated better and more directly. Johnny was someone I warmed up to from the very first page.

Around page 190-200, there was one very sensual "cooling-off in front of the air-conditioner" scene was just WOW!

4.0 out of 5 stars amusing gender war tale, March 5, 2005
In Joyful, Georgia, County Prosecutor Johnny Walker learns that Emma Jean Frasier was returning to town after being away for almost a decade. Johnny remembers escorting Emma Jean to the prom in her only year in town, but they were caught naked in a nearby gazebo as passion had flared between them. Though he thinks little of her for not showing up at her grandma's funeral, he scoffs at the rumor that she is a porn star opening up a strip joint.

Emma returns to the home she inherited from her beloved grandma to rebound from losing her nest egg and her job when her boss embezzled the money before skipping town. Her first moment in town she sprains her ankle. This makes her dependent on the one person she hates and loves Johnny. As their feelings that never had a chance to grow as teens explode as adults, neither knows what they want only who they desire. However, a murder intercedes with the sheriff leaning towards Emma as the culprit unless Johnny can prove otherwise.

Fans of contemporary romance (not sure you can say second chance as one date seems a stretched for their first time around) will enjoy this fine tale due to the lead couple; Johnny and Emma know they love the other, but assume their feelings are unrequited. Meanwhile the townsfolk bring out the best and worst in these two stars. SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY is an amusing gender war tale and although the suspense comes late readers will take delight in the humorous sparring highlighted by the romantic secret that Johnny reveals at the end.

This review is from: She Drives Me Crazy (Kindle Edition)
OK, so despite the playful cover and the name of the main cahracter being Johnny Walker, I absolutely loved this book!!! Once you read the back story involved with each of the characters you begin to understand things like how Johnny Walker's name suits him, Emma Jean is all but a sweet southern girl, and the town of Joyful is definitely full of all things joyful and scandalous!!!
Emma Jean returns to Joyful broke and on standing on her last leg after fleeing Joyful ten years earlier that left her the topic of scandal for years to come. I love how her relationship with Johnny forms despite both of their preconceived notions of the last night she spent in Joyful!! I love how all the minor characters intertwine and really give you a feel for their small town. Theirs plenty of sex, humor, scandal, mystery and an all around great read!!! I recommend this to anyone in need of a nice breathe of fresh air by an author who ALWAYS delivers and never leaves you wondering what if.....
