5.0 out of 5 stars Another great album, but a new direction
First off, here's a rule of thumb I've learned about recommendations from CD now----never listen to them because 95% of the time, they're way off. Second, I think that the reviewers on here are missing the point of Spain. In case you missed the first album "The Blue Moods Of Spain", or the final album "I Believe", the aim of the band was to make simplistic, slow,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Romantic, but trite lyrics.
At first this cd sounded really smooth and enjoyable (ala tindersticks, red house painters). Yet multiple listens find me getting quite perterbed with the absolute dullness of every songs lyrics. I suppose its mood music. Its not bad, its just not interesting. Its seductive, but... not challenging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great album, but a new direction, October 24, 2005

First off, here's a rule of thumb I've learned about recommendations from CD now----never listen to them because 95% of the time, they're way off. Second, I think that the reviewers on here are missing the point of Spain. In case you missed the first album "The Blue Moods Of Spain", or the final album "I Believe", the aim of the band was to make simplistic, slow, melancholy music. They succeded tremendously at doing this, and have managed to sound unlike any band who has tried to do it before. Yes, I like bands like Low also, but there is no comparison to Spain, they're in two different genres all together. This is not boring, garbage, down-tempo indie rock with whiny, tone-deaf singing, and "abstract" musical ideas. Spain is for the mature listener, not to put anyone's music down or say that I have superior taste, but I feel that a lot of younger listeners more into indie rock will not appreciate this. If you're not a huge fan of blues, you probably won't like this either, although this is more mainstream sounding than Blue Moods. Since when it is a crime to make simple music? Since when is it bad to not have a million different things going on in every song? I personally love this album very much, it's ultra-relaxing and even if the lyrics are overly simple, I can relate, and so can most everyone, and that matters for something...Great album, great vocals, great music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real beauty for our world!, January 30, 2000

Some people sing their songs for i don't know what reason, but it often sounds to me as if they sing for their own feeling of 'being important'. But not the singer of Spain, he sings with a feeling that goes so deep that i sometimes cry while hearing this deep '(?)thing(?)' in his voice. I am sure that he doesn't have any control over this emotion in his singing so that's why it goes so very deep inside of me. This singer is very important. thanks. & goodbye. Hans, Amsterdam

5.0 out of 5 stars calm voice full of lights, November 23, 2003

This review is from: She Haunts My Dreams (Audio CD)
I found this album by a mere accident and became to love it.
The singer's voice reminds me of a wet evening of November...
I simply love it although some might think it's too sentimental, and I can't deny it.
This is the best album I've ever heard in these several years.

5.0 out of 5 stars pure emotions, March 16, 2000
This review is from: She Haunts My Dreams (Audio CD)
This is their best CD, the first is (yet?) to slow for me. It brings out a lot of feelings in me and it wisps me away to som far away place and I wake up only when the CD ends. Only special music, like Portishead (Dummy), Janis Joplin, Anouar Brahem (Thimar) and a few others achieve that kind of magic. It is pure emotions and a great achivment.

Is there some sadnes here. Maybe, but if life is only happiness what do you measure it up against?

Some of my buddies gave it to me, pretending it was some trash they picked up at a gas station! Whoa! What a big suprise, thank you guys!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful CD, July 6, 1999
This review is from: She Haunts My Dreams (Audio CD)
Actually recorded in Sweden on vintage equipment, and the difference can be heard. Extremely clear and clean. Not as bass oriented as first album (hence only 4 stars) but well written with smoldering emotions. Josh Hayden will be one of the greats!

4.0 out of 5 stars stripped down songs, masters of understatement, July 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: She Haunts My Dreams (Audio CD)
stripped down songs. not quite as atmospheric as the first album, which had this languid, smoky bars feel. this one is lighthearted in comparison. Spain are masters of understatement, and some of the songs are actually catchy. reminds me a bit of the red house painters. the only minus really is the lyrics which are on the dull side. i guess thats the point though.

5.0 out of 5 stars The world would be a better place if this was number 1!, August 1, 1999
This review is from: She Haunts My Dreams (Audio CD)
Spain are a wonderfully accomplished band, this more so underlined seeing them live in Manchester, England. The subtleties of Spain`s music should be carried through life by everyone, I really beleive the world would be a better place for it.

"She haunts my dreams" has a wonderful acoustic feel, guitar, bass and vocals blending into a wonderful mellow sound, recorded with maturity and knowledge. Accompanied by Red wine, Pasta and hot Garlic bread and life is complete.

They no doubt draw on influences, as everyone does, but Spain create a unique pace and sound of their own which lingers and lingers, none of the tracks need to end. Unfortunatly they do as I must, so listen and love it, that`s an order.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite Nice, Actually..., November 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: She Haunts My Dreams (Audio CD)
This CD is masterfully composed, with very intricate string and harmonic arrangements. This is a departure from "Blue Moods..", being quite more layered; the skeletal structure of the blues, cool jazz and Americana of their first CD has been given more padding here. Whose haunting Josh's dreams now? Monica Lewinski or the girl in the gold leather mini skirt?

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, November 8, 1999

Just 4 words: BUY THIS CD...NOW! Some other words: even better than the first album, something which seemed almost impossible. I like "Before it all went wrong" and "Nobody has to know" especially.
