5.0 out of 5 stars Two Master Disks from a Vocal Master on 1 CD: Big Deal!, October 27, 1999

This review is from: She Loves Me / There's Love & There's Love & There's Love [2 on 1] (Audio CD)
Incredible but MCA United Kingdom has done a better work on Jack Jones' Kapp originals than MCA America has. An entire album with arrangements by Nelson Riddle would be enough to enchant our hearts. So imagine one more excellent album in the same CD package.

5.0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFUL "TWO-FER" BY JACK JONES!, August 14, 2002
By
This review is from: She Loves Me / There's Love & There's Love & There's Love [2 on 1] (Audio CD)
This coupling of two of Jack's best albums offers the music lover immeasurable nostalgia, enjoyment and collectability all in one great CD. The first half of this CD latches on to the (then) recent bossa-nova craze and takes a handful of standards and lets Jack 'bossa-nova' his way through them. It's inspiring the way the arrangements sound so tailor made to old chestnuts like THE LAMP IS LOW, the underappreciated Hoagy Carmichael-penned torch song I GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU VERY WELL and the recent broadway hits of the 60's SHE LOVES ME and ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRACKS. But the real beauty here is the second half of this CD, the album THERE'S LOVE AND THERE'S LOVE, the charts contributed by Nelson Riddle (the only time he and Jack had the opportunity to work together) Nelson's work with Jack is much like any other work he's done with any other singer - flawless. A Riddle chart always got the best out of the singer, and this is more than evident as Nels and Jack put their indelible stamp on the Beatles' classic ballad, AND I LOVE HER. Other geniune treasures to be found are the old Al Jolson standard, YOU MADE ME LOVE YOU and the lilting WHILE WE'RE YOUNG. You'll find the title track with its lyric from the able hands of Sammy Cahn, THERE'S LOVE AND THERE'S LOVE a cute tune that may border on commercial, but it never comes off that way with Jack's tender reading and Nelson's thoughful chart behind him. A really wonderful "two-fer" to have in your collection!

These two Jack Jones albums on the Kapp label from the mid '60's are long overdue on cd! The first album "She Loves Me" features songs with a latin beat, done superbly by Jones. The second album "There's Love & There's Love & There's Love" is a classic, which features the only time that Jack collaborated with the great legendary arranger Nelson Riddle. The songs are sung beautifully and smoothly by Jones, and the arrangements are incredibly lush. The album is an absolute classic. This cd is a must have for any Jack Jones fan and fan of the great popular standards!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer class, November 12, 2003

Back in the seventies, I learned the hard way that you never lend out your Jack albums. While I will never see some of that vinyl again, I welcome the chance to catch up on that and more with the hopefully ever-increasing CD back catalog.

There was something almost mystical about Jack's earlier recordings, and if I had to pick out one album that I would consider my favorite, it would be There's Love... which gave us the Jack anthem And I Love Her.

I know we're all going to disagree over his 'best' work, but with an artist of his caliber, you can only really talk about your favorite albums - another classic being Sings Michel Legrand.

Last I heard the man is still going strong, and still doing sold-out world tours, and from the last recent photo I saw, he's still outrageously handsome, dang it.

A superb double Jack set and from the look of Amazon's excellent database, one of several paired sets. Now I just have to catch up on the rest.

Brilliant.

These two albums by Jack Jones from the mid '60's are a perfect example of what makes Jack Jones so great! "She Loves Me" features songs with a latin beat, done superbly by Jones. 5.0 out of 5 stars Jones/Riddle, October 15, 2011

My review is really for the second of the two L.P's arranged by Nelson Riddle. The first titled She Loves Me is a pleasent bossa nova album arranged by Jack Elliot. There's Love and There's Love is a keeper. Beautifully sung and arranged. Thanks Amazon for the great price and service.

This review is from: She Loves Me / There's Love & There's Love & There's Love [2 on 1] (Audio CD)
This exceptional CD has all of the songs from two of Jack Jones' record albums entitled She Loves Me and There's Love & There's Love & There's Love. Jack is at his usual best on this twofer CD and it's a great addition to anyone's Jack Jones collection. Jack always made everything he sang so special by delving deep into the lyrics to bring out all the subtle nuances of each and every word; and just one listen to this album proves it! The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent and it's great that the artwork incorporates the original artwork from the two record albums.

"She Loves Me" starts this album with a fine number; Jack never lets go of a single superfluous note and that's grand! The percussion enhances the musical arrangement, too. "Real Live Girl" is very pretty; and I really like "Close Your Eyes." "Close Your Eyes" has Jack squarely front and center for this very lovely tune; he sings this passionately and I love it! This is a most romantic ballad. In addition, "When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love" is easy on the ear as Jack swings brightly to make this number exceptional in every way!

"The Lamp Is Low" is another number that shines brighter than silver and gold when Jack Jones performs this to perfection--and beyond! "The Lamp Is Low" showcases Jack's excellent vocal talents and I'm very impressed. "On the Other Side of the Tracks" has Jack singing this faultlessly--this music is all THAT good. "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" from "My Fair Lady" gets a fine treatment from Jack and the musicians; but wisely the musicians never try to steal the show away from Jack--he remains in the spotlight which is right where he belongs.

"I Get Along without You Very Well" has a fine arrangement and Jack does great justice to this number; it's magnificent. "I Can't Believe that You're in Love with Me" gets a fine treatment from Jack; he sings this with panache and it's easily a major highlight of this CD. "Young At Heart" has a sublime piano arrangement; and there's yet another gem in "And I Love Her." Terrific!

"You Do Something to Me" sparkles when Jack performs it; and "Embraceable You" never sounded better than when Jack aces this as effortlessly as if it were mere breathing. Of course, we know it really wasn't all that easy; but Jack's talent always carries him through. "You Made Me Love You" is a song Judy Garland sang for Clark Gable at a party; Judy would have loved Jack's sensitive rendition of this charming ballad. "While We're Young" is another beautiful love song that amazes me; and I think you'll like this if you haven't heard Jack sing this one before.

"Tenderly" features Jack singing with all his heart and soul; and wow, how this works well for this magical song. The album closes very well with Jack Jones performing "True Love;" "True Love" is another charmer and it leaves me wanting more!

Jack Jones remains a giant amongst giants; he still tours to this day--catch him in concert if you can! I highly recommend this CD for his fans; and it ever makes a strong starter CD for newcomers discovering the exquisite artistry of the great Jack Jones.

I had forgotten how good Jack Jones was until I recently saw him in person. I ran out and ordered any CD of his I could find. This one has two 60s LPs with standards and some songs that were popular in that era.
If you are a Jones fan you will enjoy it. If you are not you're missing one of the best of the 60s vocalists. He, Tony Bennett and Frank D'Rone are just about the only ones still around and performing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Historical treasures, April 7, 2008
This review is from: She Loves Me / There's Love & There's Love & There's Love [2 on 1] (Audio CD)
The classic era of pop offered many concepts for an artist to experiment with, and they were often very uplifting in nature. But today, it's Frank Sinatra's many fine titles devoted to loneliness that are most closely associated with the term "concept album," and considered more relative to modern times. That may be true, but it's important that we also promote our classic titles of joy and celebration. And no singer was better at conveying optimism, extending playful charm, or making listeners believe in fantasy than Jack Jones. Those qualities are all apparent on both his sunniest album, She Loves Me, and the greatest collection of pure romance ever recorded, There's Love and There's Love and There's Love, issued together on this twofer.

She Loves Me is remembered primarily for its hit title song, but it's so much more than that. Arranger Jack Elliott had a knack for approaching songs individually - rather than focusing on a personal style - often recreating a song as it had never been tried before (and he would later display more of this talent on Jones' spectacular Bewitched album). He reworks escapist pop classics into breezy bossa nova tunes here, and even makes some tired old chestnuts like Wouldn't It Be Loverly, Real Live Girl, and I Get Alone Without You Very Well sound fresh again. Jack's sophisticated interpretations further elevate She Loves Me beyond the usual confines of this genre, as his warm, carefree persona pulls listeners into a tropical paradise they'll surely enjoy visiting.

The second album on this twofer, There's Love and There's Love and There's Love, remains one of pop's most beautiful and fascinating achievements - yet it was quickly forgotten. Perhaps that's because it was already considered an anomaly in 1965, while rock 'n' roll was continuing to take hold. Back then, Jones and arranger Nelson Riddle shared the same manager, who suggested this joint project to Kapp. It was a simple concept: a collection of treasured love songs, arranged in Riddle's renowned lush style, and featuring the era's most popular balladeer, Jack Jones. But in the end, it became something more - a CLASSIC. The album's 12 songs touch on different eras, styles and tempos, yet play out as one single and fluid rhapsody. While Riddle's charts are predictably wonderful, he wisely recognized that the most important instrument would be Jack Jones' voice. It's truly breathtaking to listen to Jones' flawless vocal tone and control, caressing each note with tender, heartfelt emotion. Could there ever be a more perfectly romantic voice in pop, or a more perfect expression of old-fashioned romance than this? And would we ever again have an arranger like Nelson Riddle around at the same time to make it complete? The answer to each question, emphatically, is "No," making this an album to honor and cherish for all time.

There's Love and There's Love and There's Love's widely-regarded highlight is the hit single, And I Love Her, with its inspired aura of mystery. It's deservedly remembered as one of the best Beatles renditions ever recorded, and the fact that Kapp chose a contemporary song as the LP's lead single reveals their doubts as to releasing such a sentimental album during this period of social upheaval. Also noteworthy is the title cut, an original song contributed by the great Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn. It's one of my personal favorite love songs, featuring a challenging melody that only Jack Jones likely had the range for. The arrangement flows beautifully, beginning with a soft declaration of love that slowly builds into a glorious waltz. This entire album is so PERFECT - and, ultimately, TIMELESS - that, to me, all other romantic titles, by any other pop stars, pale considerably in comparison.

I can't think of any two albums more comforting, and guaranteed to lift my spirits, than She Loves Me and There's Love and There's Love and There's Love. I'm so glad they're in release, and hope that history books will eventually catch up with these treasures.
