Book Description

Moved by creative planning and life challenges, Robyn Devine found meaning in her life by . . . knitting hats?

She Makes Hats is one woman's story of finding meaning, purpose, and passion by way of an old-fashioned yet rediscovered craft. With a push from a friend, Robyn Devine, a thirty-something wife and mother, moved past her apprehension and began expressing herself through texture, color, and design, turning knitting into her hobby, her meditation, and a functional product that helps people all around the world.

Now, in an effort to knit 10,000 hats for people all around the world, Robyn contributes to a number of programs, aiding sick children, traveling artists, and newborns in other countries. Knitting remains a steadfast companion and leaves her blessed with worldwide friends, support, and the encouragement to continue her mission: to bring comfort, warmth, and the “sweet spot” fit of a knit hat to everyone.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

My name is Robyn. I make hats and give them away.

I give hats to folks here in Omaha via the VA Homeless Outreach Center, local hospital NICUs and maternity wards, neighborhood associations for families and school kids in need, and a variety of other places.

I give hats to folks in Maine, in Chicago, in Philadelphia and to active-duty Naval sailors on ships in various oceans.

I give hats to friends and family, clogging up their winter wardrobes with just one more hat all season long.

The only person I don't give hats to is my son Owen, who refuses to wear hand knits. I'm hoping it's just a phase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Robyn Devine inspires me April 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm no knitter, but I love this project. Building a life around hand-crafting—while still making plenty of time for friends and family—has given Robyn joy and purpose. If you're searching for those things yourself, you'd do well to read this short book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired me to charity crochet April 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Robyn is the person who inspired me to make charity hats, and I have been making and sending them to her for the last few years. Prior to reading "She Makes Hats" I didn't really understand what drove her, but I do now. Robyn is a caring, giving sole and that is clear in this entertaining easy read. Give yourself a treat and pick up a copy, then you will want to do as I will be doing, make a few hats.
