As a progressive gen-X male, I have always wondered why the unprecedented level of opportunity for women in our society has translanted into equality of education and equal representation in the workforce, but not into equal pay for equal work or equal representation in the boardroom. Gail Evans not only offers an explanation; she tells her readers how to rectify the situation. She has been there, done that, and is spreading the word on how. This book is a great gift for any woman of ambition who is ready to help herself and other women overcome the final obstacles to gender equality.

Women keep complaining that we can't get ahead in business because the men have placed a glass ceiling over our heads--but is it really the men's fault? Evans says that women are to blame also. Why? Because there's ONE RULE that all women must follow, and we're not doing it: We must all play on the same team. That's because every time one woman succeeds in business, we all do; and every time one woman fails in business, we all do. In other words, women need to take care of each other, help each other, support each other, exactly as the men do for other men. If we don't do that, we will never reach the highest levels of power. All the self-help and motivational books that are churned out year after year are useless if we don't start taking matters in our own hands.
And that is what's most inspiring about this book--women don't need to ask for help. We have the ability to change the business world right now. All we have to do is help ourselves.
This may well be the most important business book a woman will ever read. You shouldn't just buy it--you should ask your friends to read it, too.

Once again, Gail Evans has written a book that will resonate with every thoughtful woman both in and out of the workplace. Evans' insights about how women tend to react and behave in particular situations, her stories of 'real people' and her thoughtful advice about ways in which to raise our awareness of ourselves and of how we may empower others, professionally and personally, is much food for thought and discussion. She's urging us to make a conscious effort to look for women when we are seeking professional services and, if we think they can be the best for the job, choose them! She's saying...be advocates for ourselves and for other women and her examples and insights are inspirations for further discussion.

Gail Evans states, "I don't want you to stop helping deserving guys. I don't want you to feel like a bad person. I just want you to take care of other women. The boys are doing a great job of taking care of themselves already." Evans' book has made me realize the many times I've asked for a recommendation for a professional and have received the names of several men and no women. Because female professionals often don't self-promote, their names aren't on the tips of tongues as they deserve to be. Now, when I add, "Are there also any qualified women you'd recommend?" I usually receive at least one name. Women receive more than half of the college degrees and are now 46.5% of the workforce, but only 16% of upper management. Don't you think it's a good idea - for women and men - to make an attempt to include women in a pool of referrals? It's hard to believe this is considered gender warfare.

For every time I ever felt left out of the guys' sports pool in the office, this book is my best revenge. This book helped articulate all of the feelings I've had at work and gave a lot of useful, practical advice about how to help out other deserving women at work and build a network of support instead of envy.

I love this new book by Gail Evans. She really illuminates how important is for women to help other women to succeed. I am giving a copy to my (female) boss in the hopes that she will heed Evans' good advice. You will read through this book in one day, great read, and so helpful. I feel recharged after reading this book and inspired to be a woman at my office. A must read!

Even if you're not a team player, this book will draft you in the first round. In plain language, author Gail Evans outlines the corporate playing field. She clearly marks the opponents, the cheerleaders and the goals women must conquer to score points in the corporate game. The book is at its best when Evans uses real-life examples to demonstrate the dramas, the discrimination and the disadvantages women face while working. Like a video of game highlights and lowlights, her examples are pulled from the pages of her own agenda book and e-mail box. She provides concrete tips to tell women how to establish and cultivate formal and informal networks. Although she does address the tug-of-war women survive while balancing home and work commitments, the book could have scored more points on the home front. Maybe Evans will do that for us next time - meanwhile, we recommend this book to women on all rungs of the corporate ladder.

I am using this book to engage women in my workplace. We meet every couple of weeks to discuss women in leadership and how to be successful. This book clearly points out missteps that we make on our way to taking a seat at the table with our male counterparts. I encourage you to read and discuss this book with other women.

Very interesting take from Gail Evans on how women in corporate world should help each other. Her premise in this book is that we (women) still operate as individuals instead of teams. Women need to attend more power lunches where not only family and tennis lessons can be discussed, but business deals can be made too. In some instances, Ms. Evans is stretching the idea of every woman, helping every woman. Personally, I will help any person, regardless of their gender, if I see professional potential in them, humanity and humility in their behavior. Helping any woman regardless of their abilities just for the sake that there are a woman is a bit too much for me to accept. In general, I like helping people who will show gratitude and loyalty of some sort. In my opinion, that is the only way one can create a following and build successful teams and organizations.

Every woman struggling to break through in her career will benefit tremendously from reading this book. It's hands down the most relevant book about women and business that I have ever read. Evans' insights are clear, meaningful and ultimately very empowering. The book is full of thought provoking material, good information and interesting case studies. She Wins You Win is perfect for book clubs - trust me, you are going to want to talk about this book when you are done reading it!
