A She-Wolf in the Closet... Comes Out,
By Amaranth "music fan" (Northern California) - See all my reviews

"She-Wolf" is Colombian diva Shakira's latest venture. One wonders if she's tapped into the TWILIGHT craze, with her song about lycanthropy (she uses that word, pretty big for a pop song!) It's a cheesy dance tune... and a fun one at that! It's supposed to be a guilty pleasure. Look past the dumb choreography in the video--it's a decent song. There's even a double entendre with "she's a she-wolf in the closet." Interpret that as you well. Time to come out and dance!

I did NOT care for this last album and loved her first. This song is spectacular. Hook, hook, hook and you can't stop moving. Very refreshing for the crap that is on the radio for the past many years. This song is sensational! Addicted to it.

I am somewhat biased here but this song is great! The video is awesome as well. If you have ever been in a relationship where you felt taken for granted or pushed aside, and just wanted to bust free from those chains, you will identify with this song. Not only that, it is an awesome dance song. We used it for several dance classes and it works great for many routines.

Shakira can do no wrong.,

As far as I'm concerned Shakira can do no wrong. She is original and her exotic moves and dancing is fascinating. Beyonce looks like a stiff compared to Shakira!

A different Shakira.,

Shakira has been in the music business all her life and her return to music in 2009 shows that she's not scared of taking some risks regarding her music. "She Wolf" sounds like a french-euro-dance song with some truthful organic elements. Danceable and fun stepping away a little bit from the rock-pop that Shakira's style. The bass background is enigmatic, her voice is playful and if it matters, the video reveals that she's having a blast with "She Wolf", a delightful Pop Gem.

$1.29 is a THIRTY PERCENT increase in the price of music. REFUSE TO PAY for these over-priced songs! There are plenty still available at $0.99. Tell the record companies WE WILL NOT PAY MORE!

She said she wanted to dance - you will.,

Very pulsing, techno-disco, make you move tune. A departure from the Orals, harkens back to an earlier Shaki - sorta "Ready for the good times" -esque. Dying to see the video.

Simply horrible.,

I like Shakira, I'm not a huge fan or anything but I have all her albums and I find them good (specially "Pies Descalzos" and "Fijacion Oral"). And when I knew that she had a new single, I thought that it was going to be a good one but as soon as I heard it, I couldn't understand how she recorded such and ugly song. The rhythm is terrible, the lyrics don't match her at all and she had her Britney moment making the video.
Lots of people say that the song is horrible, basically the only ones who say is good are her fans who WILL NEVER ACCEPT that sometimes that our favorite artists make mistakes.

Sad, but not bad,

I've known Shakira's music for a few years now. Since I heard 'Hips Don't Lie' on the local radio station, I've become enamored with the sound of her voice. The accent, the little eccentric bits here and there, and the way she can so easily transfer into Spanish after singing English has been what's drawn me to her as an artist. But despite being played on American radio stations, I've always seen her as a Spanish artist. This isn't a bad thing though--it's made me view her as an artist outside of American standards, one who doesn't have to constantly sing about sex.
Sadly, though, this is now changing. Because of the fact that the music industry is slowly devolving into drugs, sex and money, Shakira, too, has fallen into that. The song 'She Wolf,' while not bad, is not great either. It demoralizes the talent that Shakria has, and does it horribly at that. While Shakira's singing is nothing less than great, it is not as amazing as it could be. She should not be singing about 'She wolves' being let out of the closet to 'hunt her prey,' but about things that should matter more. Her love songs--'Underneath your Clothes'--for example, are much stronger than this. I can deal with love songs if written in a respectable and realistic way, but I'm getting tired of people rehashing sex over and over again. It doesn't matter if you use a mythical creature as a metaphor--it's still sex. Sadly, though, sex sells, and it seems as though Shakira has fallen into that catagory. The only reason I'm giving this three stars is because I DO like the song and her singing, just not the morals behind it. |
