Royal Puppets, December 25, 2009
This review is from: She-wolf (Hardcover)
It's England, 1323, and Edward II (the homosexual king) is king. He is king in name only, as the real force behind the crown is Hugh Dispenser, the king's current lover. Edward is a mere puppet with Hugh controlling his strings. Queen Isabella has been spurned not once, but twice at this point. She is angry and means to get revenge on Hugh. However, she is a puppet herself and her strings are being guided by her lover, Mortimer. With Mortimer behind her and anger driving her on, Isabella heads to France and begins a series of cold and calculating maneuvers to put an end to the Dispensers and take her husband's crown.
This she-wolf is not above using her own cub, Edward III, to attain her goals. She promises his hand in marriage in exchange for money and troops and wages war on her husband. If she succeeds, just how long will Edward III remain a puppet himself? With Isabella and Mortimer pulling his strings, what will become of England?
Not bad at all, but a little bogged down with historical details in some parts. There were moments when too much historical data was incorporated all at once, much like a recap.
