Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"The fans are what I will always remember best from my playing days at Shea. Their passion fed our passion. Our team wanted to win for ourselves, certainly, but we also wanted to win for our fans. I was on the field at Shea in Game 7 in 1986, and Mets fans have never forgotten that. To this day, they treat all of us like long-lost brothers." --Keith Hernandez on Shea Stadium

From the Inside Flap

KEITH HERNANDEZ--five-time All-Star, 11-time Gold Glove winner, and beloved Mets fan favorite--led the team in its unforgettable march to a World Series championship in 1986. Now a broadcaster for the team's television affliliate, Hernandez offers a unique perspective on the team's 2008 season, its last at Shea. From the team's surprising preseason victory in the Johan Santana sweepstakes to the mid-season dismissal of manager Willie Randolph, all the way to the team's flickering hopes for a postseason berth, Hernandez recounts it all with humor, candor, and intelligence. Shea Good-Bye is the testament of a tumultuous season but also a fitting tribute to the stadium that has borne witness to history, Amazin' and otherwise. This book is a keepsake for Mets fans of all ages and a tribute to a team that is poised for a championship in 2009.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Tribute to One of Baseball's Great Venues, August 7, 2009
This review is from: Shea Good Bye: The Untold Inside Story of the Historic 2008 Season (Hardcover)
Former Mets first baseman Keith Hernandez' wonderful tribute to Shea Stadium portrays a fascinating look into one of baseball's most colorful franchises---and the ballpark they used to call home. How time flies. When the hapless Mets first came into the National League (1962), they inhabited the venerable & somewhat delapidated Polo Grounds; but only for a couple of seasons.

Shea Stadium was built just for them, in beautiful Flushing, NY, and by 1969, the whole world was familiar with Shea, as the now Amazing Mets captured their first World Series championship. Hernandez, who is quite a Civil War history buff, pens a very well written tribute to the ballpark he grew to love during his remarkable Mets career. His honest & witty style of writing will make any fan of the game smile, as he recalls the great relationship he & his teammates built with the loyal Mets fans over the years.

The recent history of this team has been somewhat bittersweet, but they have certainly had their share of great moments to relish. This is certainly a book any diehard Mets fan will embrace, as well as any fan of the game in general.

The untold story of 2008's final season of Mets baseball from the former great Hernandez is a most compelling winner, indeed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Historic 2008 Season? How about Disappointing 2008 Season?, March 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Shea Good Bye: The Untold Inside Story of the Historic 2008 Season (Hardcover)
For Mets fans who wish to continue to feel the pain that had been the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons and after 2009, wish that the Wilpons had left Shea standing.
