I don't know why Amazon is promoting this product as "Curl & Hold". It is a bit misleading and confusing, IT IS NOT INTENDED FOR HOLD. Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is an EXCELLENT creme hair dress and conditioner--think Vitapointe Creme Daily Hairdress, 7 Ounce or Liv Creme Hairdressing and Conditioner kicked up a dozen notches just for curls. No mineral oil, petroleum and beeswax--Shea, coconut , mango, aloe silk protein instead! This product is best used just as you would a creme hairdressing. I use this in the same may my mother used Liv on my hair when I was little for braids/braid-outs, finger curls, twist/twist-outs and smoothing ponytails. It works great as a layer on wet hair. Use it after your leave-in conditioner and before your sealing oil. You only need a tiny bit for shine, moisture and de-frizzing . I tap my finger lightly into the product for each braid, twist etc. and take a little more only if I need it. Again, do not expect hold from this product! I DO NOT use it to set my "wash and go". Curl Enhancing Smoothie is not intended to perform like an Eco Styler Gel or Kinky Curly Curling Custard. On the other hand, because the product hydrates curls, it is great for finishing your "wash and go" or "rod set" after it dries. It's also great for refreshing second day hair because it helps curls to spring back and smoothes frizz.

My best advice for using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is use it to do what it's supposed to do. When I first started wearing my natural curls, I'd read the product description instead of the ingredients.... If you read the ingredients below you'll see that it is water and Shea butter, not gel. Use it like you would water and Shea. With that said, this stuff is THE BEST CREME HAIRDRESS I HAVE EVER USED. Usually my hair is very dry. Straight Shea butter is way too heavy for me. With this, my hair is softer than with any other product WITHOUT making it flat and greasy.

I have natural locks and used this product to twist and hold my locks. Let me just say, it works amazingly! My hair feels soft and moisturized and when it dried, the locks were held in this amazingly soft, coiled pattern. Really brilliant stuff and i seriously cannot recommend it enough. It is quite light and smooth, and a little goes a long way. It can be used to style or to moisturize. It has quite a strong coconut, tropical smell-which I love, but may be too much for those who are sensitive. I should say that it is quite a natural smell though and it is not overkill or annoying. My hair smells and feels great. I would recommend this without a doubt to all those who have natural hairstyles coils, twists, spirals, locks, afros.

An added bonus for me is that all of the ingredients are organic and it does not have unnatural sulfates, parabens, etc that some are allergic too. It contains, pure, raw shea butter-100% organic. I hope you enjoy this product as much as I have ;)

I have 4a hair and this does moisturize very well. My hair always tends to the dry side. I've used it as a deep conditioner left it on for 45 minutes and squeezed out the excess, then styled my hair in twists. The one thing I'd like to warn others about is that if you are protein sensitive this more than likely isn't for you. It caused my hair to dry off and break after extended usage. I'd recommend using it sparingly and not in conjunction with the other coconut and hibiscus line as they contain silk protein, that would probably be an overabundance.

I ordered this around the begining of Oct 2010 and I must say it is trully a wonderful product! I have used countless and I do mean countless so called moisturizers claiming to moisturize the hair and make it soft and supple at the same time. Well to say the least many of the other products that I've tried does not even come close to this. I've used to name just a few IC gel, Hawaiian Silky 14 n 1, S Curl no drip and many more. And in my opinion for my hair type nothing comes close to this.

First the fragrance alone will make you fall in love with it. Second but not last is the moisturizing affects it has on my hair. I am a 3c/4a hair type and it has been a true struggle for me to find what really works well in my hair. Well this is definitely it. Next month I will order at least 5 jars to ensure I will not run out. It does what it says it will do without a doubt. The only negative thing I can say about it and I'm not speaking of the product but more so the availability of it. I had to order this online through Amazon! I am a regular shopper on Amazon, but sometimes the shipping cost gets to me. I was so disappointed going to two different Targets in my area and they did not have it let alone only a tiny section for black hair care which I think is ridiculous in the first place! The hair care section for women of color was so small I went back to it 3 times thinking I must have missed something. For all other races there was an abundance of hair care products. Which btw I think is so unfair!

But other than that I think next month along with my five jars of this smoothie that I will also order the rest of the products since I had such a wonderful and delightful positive affects with this one.... Oh, I would like to also mention when using this product I use it on dry freshly washed and conditioned hair. Then I applied the leave-in which works well also. But after I apply the smoothie (just a small amount per section) I use Wave Nouveau moisturizing lotion then put my hair in medium size 2 strand twist and use just a dab per section Jamaican Black Castor oil on the twist but mostly concentrating on my ends.
