I was turned off by the parabens listed in almost all cosmetic products and wanted to shift towards more natural products. I started using this product in December 2008. I would say I have oily/combination skin and found that most products for oily skin made my skin tight and made my oil glands more active. I have had no such issues with this cleanser, my face loves it. My skin is soft and I am having much less battles with acne. I used it throughout winter with no flaking and now that warmer months are here I am still using it, except now I am using a salicylic lotion each night to keep my pores in check.

To use I simple apply it as normal on damp face massage and then rinse. Once a week I apply it like a mask. I squeeze a little on DRY finger tips and then sprend on my DRY face in a circular motion avoiding the eye area. I then proceed to shower as usual and then by the end of my shower (anywhere up to 10 min), the steam adds enough water to my face so I just massage thoroughly, then rinse. Voila beautiful, clean soft skin. If you do try to use it as a mask please remember to apply cleanser with dry hands to dry face. If you wet your hands and face then step in the shower, the face wash will get runny and drip into your eyes. That stings.

To exfoliate, once a week a add a bit of baking soda to this face wash and massage in a circular motion. This is enough to keep my face soft and clear, for a cheap price, and without parabens and other chemicals. My skin hasn't looked this good in years.

To summerize: I use the African Black soap as a regualer face wash twice a day, once a week I apply it like a mask, and once a week I use it with baking soda to exfoliate. I am truly happy with this face wash, and my skin care regime is so simply but the results are great.

I've been using this Black Soap for about a week now and am VERY pleased with the results. The soap comes out looking like black jelly but once you start rubbing it around on your face it lathers up nicely and turns somewhat white. It is very effective in cleaning all traces of dirt and oily residue (even waterproof mascara). After rinsing you really can feel how squeaky clean your face is. I have very sensitive and acne prone skin and have NOT had one problem with this soap. It doesn't feel like it burns or stings while using it nor leaves behind any soreness or redness. I would recommend this to anyone with any skin type. Two thumbs up for Shea Terra Organics!

I use the black soap lemon scented, it works great! My face doesn't feel tight after washing and its bright and clear. I also use this soap as a body wash and shampoo. I've always had a problem with dandruff and this stuff has minimized my flakes, I plan to keep using this. I love all Shea Terra Organics products...I also use her Shea butters and skin oils. Plus if you join her mailing list, she gives 30% to 40% discounts on her products. The only bad thing about her Shea butters is she doesn't offer them in larger sizes.

Never used SheaTerra products before never mind 'rose hips, black soap' - got my information about black soap on QVC's community chat room - they talk about every product produced on the market, not only the items on QVC but everywhere. Black soap was the subject and one gal suggested SheaTerra Products and I checked out Amazon and there is was. Well, I've been using it for two (2) weeks steadily and now have switched to every other day. Skin is so clear, fresh, and gleaming. I love it and will return for more. By the way girls, it is a facial mask, pore cleanzer plus being a facial wash. What more can you ask for.. Just follow the directions in details, like I did - put on in a circular motion and wait 15 mins. and take off with warm water also in a circular motion. I apply my Argan Oil as a moisterizer and finished. Great product and cheap.

Love this cleanser. The scent is light. My face feels smooth and clean after washing and not too tight. Definitely recommend it.

I agree with the other reviewers, it's very gentle and effective. Your face feels very clean, not stripped but squeaky clean. No complaints.
