I wore my old calligraphy pen out and was delighted when I found a replscement that I was familiar with. Even better was the improved window in the barrel that lets me know when I am getting low on ink. Just what I needed.

I purchased this starter kit for addressing wedding invitations. It worked out pretty well. I used The Calligrapher's Bible (by David Harris) for instruction.

Overall, the pen was exactly what I needed. Nothing broke or had any problems, even after writing hundreds and hundreds of addresses. I did go through quite a few of the black cartridges; plan to order black refill cartridges if you're intending to use black and do much lettering. :)

I notice one comment mentioned the hole being uncomfortable--it was a little uncomfortable for me, too, but I did like the convenience of being able to see how much ink remained. When my hand got sore, I just took a break from writing and picked it up again later. If you're thinking about buying this set for a lot of writing that must be done all at once, you may want to look for something a little more comfortable. It wasn't bad, though.

I like the newer style of the Sheaffer nib connection to the barrel of the pen. I am dissappointed that they won't work with my old nibs.

i've had earlier verisons of this product. I do like the upgrade. nice grip and pen feels of better quality. i like the window in the barrel too.
nice surpise to see these improvements in such a simple tool, they make it seem more elegant too.

I am a novice and this is my first calligraphy pen. It was not a gift, I bought it for myself. The packaging does state that this is an Introductory Kit. I have found it quite satisfactory so far. The nib sizes are 0.8mm, 1.3mm, and 1.8mm. I don't really like the 'window' in the pen. It is not really a window but rather a cut out. Depending on how you hold the pen, the cut out rests against your hand and it is a bit annoying, but all in all, it is a minor thing. Also, I wish the broad nib was a little bigger, 2mm or more.

Considering that you get 3 different nibs and 4 ink cartridges, this is an great value. I would recommend this to others, or give it as a gift to someone who was looking into calligraphy.

A gift for my brother to use for learning arabic for special forces training. He said they are perfect and he loves the refills.

I have used Sheaffer pens (manufactured by Bic- fyi) for years and am very disappointed in the new design. The "cut out" for the ink level is in a bad location. It causes difficulty when trying to make certain letters if your nib is not lined up correctly, your pen may slip if your hand is over this HOLE and the edges are sharp. I don't understand the need for a HOLE to view ink levels. Why not a transparent barrell? I have fairly small hands and the hole cuts into my hand with every letter. I recommend changing brands.

They worked the day my daughter needed them, but they did leak. I didn't expect much for the price but for basicly using them one day they served their purpose.

Basically a smaller set of pens for those who don't need the full set. Sheaffer is a quality brand and I am excited to keep using their products.

We have used this product before and think it is excellent and that is why we reordered it.
