Like a Meg Ryan movie in book form,

This review is from: Shear Magic (Paperback)
Unlike the Pauline Sokol Mysteries, Shear Magic is a tale of romance very much like a Meg Ryan movie. The author does a great job of pulling the reader in to the story and connecting with the characters. I would have enjoyed a little more conflict, but it was a very good romantic tale.
Becky Chambers has never had a single good thing handed to her. Everything she has, which fits in the back seat of a car, she has had to work for. Then, one day she gets news that a good friend of hers has died and left her a portion of a large ranch. Knowing that nothing in life is free, Becky wonders what the catch is. What she did not expect was to have to share the other half of that land with a gorgeous rancher named Slate Lawson who can't understand why this woman who is not even related to his family is getting his land. According to the will, each one of them has six months to turn a profit from the land. Which ever one earns the most, gets the entire ranch. Knowing just how much they could lose, the two fight hard to prove who is the better rancher. The only thing they weren't counting on was learning just how empty a chunk of property and expansive villa is if you have no one to share it with. Can they put the past behind them and finally trust someone or will they be too stubborn to admit the truth? Is it worth buying? I think so, but I do think full price at $11 something is a bit much since it is only 200 pages long. Just remember that this is the story of romance, not a romance novel. As long as you are not expecting sex scenes or a mystery like Lori Avocato's other books, you won't be disappointed. It was a quick read but kept me entertained from beginning to end. Unfortunately, it just isn't up to the same level as the Pauline Sokol series, but then I thoroughly enjoyed reading those and hope the author can write more. I hope this review helps. |
