1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work
I tried the tool and it is junk. The way the handle holds the blade, you can't control the angle and it is very difficult to use. The caps covering the screws both fell off and the handle feels hard and cheap. I tried a friend's furminator and it worked 10 times better.

4.0 out of 5 stars worth having around for us, April 1, 2006
This also works for me very well, but I had to use it for a while to get the hang of it. It's important to hold it at a 90 degree angle to the coat, brush in the direction that the fur is growing, apply a little bit of pressure and use the comb facing in the right direction. Some of our cats hate the wire brush I use, especially the one with diabetes who has tender skin, and it does seem to irritate all of them after a bit of use. The wire brush also makes noise as it passes over their fur which some of them don't like. They all seem to like this comb, it's silent, doesn't hurt, and does pull out a lot of big clumps of undercoat, leaving all five of our cats looking and feeling better than they ever have before. In fact, they like it! It naturally gets more fur out of the ones with thick undercoats, but I noticed it pulling fur out of the undercoats of the ones with thinner coats who usually don't have a lot of hair that comes out on a brush.

This comb is very small and it is a bit of a chore to get a whole cat done in one sitting. I would recommend using a bigger brush first to get out as much loose fur as possible then finish grooming with this. I have not tried the FURminator mentioned, but would still recommend having this around, too. It doesn't need batteries or electricity, it's cheap, and it's especially handy on areas harder to reach with a bigger brush or tool, ie around the haunches and tail area which seem to accumulate a lot of fur.

Other drawbacks are that it works on some parts of their bodies better than others (the sides were hard to get anything out of, as opposed to their backs) and only being able to use it in one direction can get tricky, because these guys like to turn around in circles when I comb them, so I have to do some maneuvering to stay in the right position. Nice alternative to petting in front of the tv, anyway. :)

I got mine at Walgreens.

2.0 out of 5 stars furminator the more efficient tool, August 1, 2006
By
Lain (Beverly Hills, CA USA) - See all my reviews
i got this for my cat (ocicat breed). he's a short-haired cat that doesn't generally need much grooming except when the season changes. shedender worked just like the commericals. one brush and fur goes flying everywhere. it does remove hair however the teeth of the comb are not deep so the removed hair goes either flying or stays on top of the fur towards the back. as u can see in the picture the tool is small. if you have the patience and extra time (and if your pet has the patience too!) u can think about saving some money with this tool. if you want something more efficient, invest some extra money and go for the furminator instead. i bought both and compared them but i'm keeping my furminator despite the much higher price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job it is supposed to and does it well., March 26, 2006
I dont know what the other two guys issue was with this item but I had no problem at all. I have a pug and the little guy sheds like there is no tomorrow. I bought this thing at my local mall for 9.99 and tried it out today. It was awsome, the amount of fur that came off of him was nuts, I had a pile of hair that was the size of my pug. He loved it and seemed to want more even after I stoped. I am going to assume that the other two bad reviews here are pure user error, it has to be. This item works great and I would recomend it to anyone that has a pet with a sheding problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!, May 16, 2006

What a great grooming tool! I bought it because I have three long-haired cats and always seem to be vacumming up hair. The Shed Ender got down to the undercoat, just like it claimed. I was absolutely amazed at how much fur I pulled out of their coats! I had brushed them with a regular brush before I started, and gotten very little hair off. The Shed Ender removed piles and piles of hair - in fact, the pile of hair was almost as big as my cat! It took a little practice to get the hang of how to use it, but I was very impressed with the results. It takes some time to go through the animal's whole coat, but it's toally worth it!

Other reviewers said they liked the Furminator better, but it costs quite a bit more. I went to a local pet store to check out the prices of the Furminator, and the least expensive one (the smallest) was $34.95 (versus the same size Shed Ender at $9.99!). I say, try the Shed Ender first - you'll love it!

I ordered one of these combs last week, and am so glad I did.
I was absolutely amazed at the amount of loose, dead hair it removed from my 2 Chihuahuas.
This is a GREAT product !

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it !!, December 8, 2006
I have had my shedender for a while now. We have a long hair shepard, corgi, and a short hair lab. Works wonderfully on all 3 dogs ! I bought and gave shedenders as christmas presents to family members with pets, because I love mine so much! And it is so easy to work, my children can do it, they are 8 and 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, May 12, 2006
I just finished using this brush for the first time, and it was spectacular to watch the hair just rolling out of my cats. We have 3 cats, 2 longhair males and a shorthair female. I brush the female often, and usually get quite a few hair out on the brush, but I still was able to get so much hair off her using this! I couldn't believe how much softer she was after. I can pet her now without hair flying everywhere! The males are more difficult because they hate to be brushed, but I was still able to get more hair than ever off them.

Anyone who doesn't have luck with this product is either too impatient to really try it, or they just have cats like mine that won't sit still. Try it on a calmer cat or dog and you'd be amazed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, November 30, 2006
By
We bought this for our long haired cat whom is a Himalayan. He sheds a lot and is always pulling out hairs the brush doesn't get with his teeth and constant grooming leads to hairballs. We decided to give this brush a try. It really works great and gets all the hair in your pets undercoat. But unfortunately no matter what brush it is, our cat HATES to be brushed, unless it's his neck/chin area. It just becomes a chore with trying to brush him everytime. Which is too bad because this brush is really good.

Since my cat doesn't like being brushed, I tried it out on a relative's Chocolate Lab. She's very docile and doesn't mind being brushed at all. She had a lot of matting on her back and tail area, due to lack of grooming. The Shedender worked wonders in getting those out.

The only downside is that it's a bit small. I see no problems for those with really small animals. If you have a big dog you may want to choose an alternative.

Now I just wish I had a pet who likes to be brushed as much as I like doing the brushing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Coat, November 26, 2006
By
The comb is directional so I have one for either way the animal is setting to save constantly reshifting the animal. It has worked best on our cat with a medium length coat. The comb removes the coarse undercoat hair leaving his coat very sleek and shiny; and far less dander visible. He enjoys the combing which is not typicaly in his personality. At our recent vet visit, our vet commented on how beautiful his coat is and said she recommends a comb for all clients, but didn't need to make that recommendation to us. The younger cat has a long coat and it works well on him, he just doesn't set still very well yet. We also have two rabbits; one who sheds horribly. For the rabbits, I use the comb teeth against my thumb to remove the clumps of shedding hair. As one person said, the comb works best depending on what area is being combed. Our animals are relatively small so it is difficult with any straight comb to get into narrow places or follow the curve of their body especially belly, legs, etc. The combs have worked well for us.
