It does a great job - better than the rakes for removing loose hair.

He loves it too, as soon as I bring it out he runs over and lays down and seems to enjoy being brushed with it.

I have a long haired cat, and a short haired cat, and it works on both.

Dog Hair Wars

Some dog owners are neophytes in the grooming battle. If you ever get a Siberian Husky or another breed like it, let me tell you, you become an expert in one thing: SHEDDING.

One Siberian Husky breed description site flatly stated, "If you don't like dog hair, don't get a Siberian Husky. This dog is equipped with excessive fur to survive sub zero temperatures. The insulating downy undercoat sheds in early to late spring. They shed a little all year round."

So as a husky owner, I'm now embattled in the never-ending war against dog hair in the house. I've tried slicker brushes, combing the undercoat, and even the pricy FURminator® (over $60 at our local Petco store). But, when you're desperate, you'll even spend $60 on a brush because it promises to "By reducing shedding up to 90%, the FURminator® deShedding Tool."

I've used the FURminator with much success, but I have heard "rumblings" from other dog owners about "brush burn" erupting after using a high-intensity brush like the FURminator. Brush burn is red, irritated skin that can allow bacteria into breaks in your dog's skin from over-eager brushing. This may require veterinary intervention to restore your dog to normal health.
When I was asked to review the Shed Monster brush (As Seen on TV), I agreed, but with a little hesitation.

I do have a husky, therefore, I always, always have a shedding dog. However, I do have a short-haired American Bulldog, named Lucille, and a mutt with a medium coat, named Maggie. Dutchy is the Siberian.

Since it's a sunny, hot Sunday afternoon in Georgia, I decided to try out the Shed Monster brush on all three of the dogs. The brush got an amazing amount of hair out of Dutchy's coat, but that's not impressive.

We have two long-furred and one short-furred cats. We purchased a Furminator for three times the cost of the ShedMonster, and the cats all hated it -- I think it irritated their skin. They all LOVE the ShedMonster. I think it's like a massage/petting session for them. I tried it with my short-haired cat too, and it worked great with him, even though I used the one for long-furred cats. In fact, he likes it more than the others, and it's extremely effective with him. You just keep brushing and the excess fur piles up at the end of the cat LOL -- you don't even have to remove it from the brush very often.

I wish I'd discovered this years ago! I can't recommend it enough!

I have two long-hair, mixed breed, large (70 lbs.) dogs. Both pets are part German Shepherd and they have a thick coat and a heavy undercoat and seem to constantly shed (summer or winter). Even with continued maintenance (including twice yearly shaves with a pair of high-quality dog clippers), the dogs shed year round.

I've tried many other tools including the furminator, the pick/tooth style brushes, and the plastic/rubber nub brushes. The other tools work OK, in that they do remove some fur.

I'm not a big fan of "as seen on TV" products, but for $20 I figured I'd give this a shot (the medium Furminator retails for $60 in store). I've had the ShedMonster about a week but so far I've removed an incredible amount of fur from my dogs, enough to warrant the $20 price tag.

The ShedMonster doesn't pull the dogs skin or make them uncomfortable in any way. It's super easy to clean and remove the excess hair. The teeth are sufficiently deep to gather a nice amount of hair and allow you to run the tool thru the fur multiple times (unlike the Furminator). My dogs fur feels much softer and I've noticed they don't smell as much like dog as they used to.

Not nearly as fast acting and effective as the Furminator. But I like that it is non irritating to the skin. Price point is a lot easier to swallow too. I would recommend this over the furminator for that reason alone. It is still a great brush for removing hair, it just takes a little more time and diligence.

I bought this grooming tool in the hopes that it would help me groom my dogs without hurting them. They have very unique fur because it's baby soft and thin in some places and very course and thick in other places, and it's LONG all over. They are both such sensitive girls, that they hide when I pull out the brushes. They weren't getting groomed nearly enough because I hated causing them pain and I didn't really like getting snapped at either. I wasn't disappointed. The first time I used this they didn't enjoy it, but that is to be expected because they had some nasty tangles in a few places. However, they never growled or snapped once. I was able remove the mats without any excessive pain, only discomfort. Since then, I've used it every other day (for about a week and a half) and they love it. Each time they like the ShedMonster more, and yesterday one of them even closed her eyes in pleasure as I was brushing her. Their coats are so soft and starting to get shiny again, and I haven't seen another mat since. Plus, brushing sessions aren't torture anymore. I'm tossing out the 8 other brushes and combs we own!

On a whim I also decided to try this out on my short, thick haired cat. I was pleasantly surprised that it took a lot of hair off of him too. Plus, he loved it. It's so funny, when I groom the dogs now, he rolls around on the floor meowing at me until I do him too. Then he purrs through the entire thing and rolls over to have his tummy brushed. My other cat likes it too, but it doesn't get any hair from him so I'll probably pick up the ShedMonster for short/fine coats for him next.
