I live in the windy city (Chicago) and I bought this umbrella a couple of years ago. It is the only umbrella that has ever been able to withstand the wind in this city. I bought another one last month for my aunt who lives in Sydney as she kept complaining about all the umbrellas that have been destroyed by the wind where she lives! We love it!!!!

Irv's Luggage, the Amazon Marketplace Vendor I bought this from has since replaced this defective unit with a new one that works flawlessly.

-------

I thought it was too good to be true...a mini umbrella that opens AND closes with the touch of a button. Unfortunately, the Auto Close feature fails to engage 9 out of 10 times and you have to manually close it like a normal umbrella. I'm OK with this but I'm not OK with spending over $33 on what is just a regular umbrella.

This umbrella DOES perform admirably well in the wind and is incredibly compact. It has a waterproof pouch that you can keep in your pocket and stow the wet umbrella inside without getting any of your belonging wet as well.

In my opinion, this product is way too overpriced and I'm disappointed by it's failure to Auto Close (would have been FIVE stars and glowing review!). I'm hoping that the seller (Irv's Luggage) will rectify the situation or will face a negative review.

I bought this umbrella based on it's reviews. I work in Chicago and have used it in some really rainy and windy downpours. This umbrella consistently blows up. At first I though it was just due to really bad weather, but when I looked around, no one else's umbrella was blowing up like mine. I've kept it because I've used it but I can't wait till it rips or something so I can replace.

This umbrella is absolutely horrible. I don't think their testing was done under real-world conditions. I am a public transportation commuter who works in downtown Chicago where we can have some pretty heavy wind gusts. (And no, Chicago is not nicknamed the "Windy City" for that reason.) My review below is based upon light winds of 5-10 mph. I won't even use this umbrella for windier rainy days. There are several reasons why I don't like this umbrella:

1. The circumference is too small. It barely covers me and my purse. If I am carrying my laptop bag to work it gets soaked. I wouldn't dream of using this umbrella while out shopping carrying several bags. This size is more appropriate for a child. Note: I am not one of those people who uses a golf umbrella and gobbles up the entire sidewalk.

2. The fiberglass arms are VERY flimsy. When I was walking against a light wind (5 mph) the arms were bending over and pushing the canopy into my face. When this happened my view became obstructed. When I raised the umbrella, the wind caught it just so that the umbrella inverted and I got wet.

3. The wind tunnel top part is too short. Because of this, when the wind direction suddenly changes, such as when one is rounding the corner of a building, the umbrella inverts leaving the person exposed to the rain. This happened to me on several occasions, even in light winds.

4. The auto open/close feature is flawed. After pressing the auto close button and you want to open the umbrella again, you have to MANUALLY open it up first to engage the strings that are connected to the fiberglass arms to reset the button. This happens to me when I stop for my morning coffee before heading to the office. I use the auto close feature to close the umbrella when I enter the coffee shop. When I exit the coffee shop I have to manually open the umbrella (while trying to hold on to a hot cup of coffee).

This umbrella was to replace one lent to me which I promptly lost. The recipient, a NYC business woman who is tough enough to insult NYC taxi drivers to the point where they refuse to accept her fare, informs me this is the best umbrella she has ever owned.

Light, compact, strong, durable and effective.

I have redeemed myself.

I like that it is compact, and I can easily carry it in my messenger bag. However, it inverted three times during my first chance to use it. I will keep it around for lighter rainfall because it does keep the rain off my head.

It keeps the rain off, it is really light weight, it opens and closes very easily, it is not destroyed by wind (within reason) and it folds up nice and small so that it fits in the case I usually carry to and from work. In fact it is so light that I carry it all the time, just in case.

I bought this umbrella specifically because it is vented and the product description says it is tested in a wind tunnel. I used it twice on rainy days when the National Weather Service said the wind in Boston at the time was less than 15 MPH. It inverted once on the first use and twice on the second use during a 5 minute walk from my car to my office. Once it turns inside out it takes some manipulation to get it right side out again. Obviously, while working to get it back in shape I was effectively without an umbrella in the rain. I was very disappointed with this product and returned it for a refund.

The ShedRain umbrella has been my favorite rain gear since I first pulled it over my shoulder with that nifty strap provided on the cover. Almost silly, but I carried the umbrella on my shoulder one cloudy day, just in case. This week I even walked a few blocks to get something to eat during a snow storm and there was nary a snowflake on my jacket either coming or going. This umbrella is a must have!

Just used this for the first time today. Even though it wasn't really windy, I feel like it's going to be great when I run into that. The size of this umbrella is perfect for walking in the streets of DC where the sidewalks get really busy during lunch. The auto open and close feature is something I will require from now on if I ever need to replace this one. The construction seems pretty good, I should last for many seasons!
